Postby Bazda » Mon Jan 22, 2007 8:06 pm

Well I just priced up all the bits, well i think i've listed all the bits, that is involved in building my setup for you people out there who want to build it one day can see the pricing list as follows. As I get people all the time asking how much to build, and they get a fright and run away and cry but here are the hard facts.

7AFE Engine $850
Blacktop head and TB $500
Pauter Rods $1,350
ACL Pistons $1,200
Valve Springs $600
ACL Race Bearings $150
Shear pins $60
Turbo T3/4 $900
Manifolds $600
Plenum $400
Tial 38mm Wastegate x2 $850
Tial 50mm bov $250
Downpipe $200
Autronic SMC $2,500
Evo ignition $200
Leads $90
Split Fire plugs $40
Air filter & Intake $100
Urethane engine mounts $80
Cam Belt $40
Custom Flywheel $250
Twin Plate Clutch $1,600
Intercooler $250
Ic Piping & Joiners $400
Oil Cooler $260
Oil Filter Adapter $150
Oil cooler lines $400
FPR $300
Fuel lines $200
Custom crank pulley $250
800cc Injectors $725
TRD Metal Head Gasket $100
ARP Head studs $200
Oil feed for Turbo $75
Walbro fuel pump $235
Bore hone and head skim $120
Engine loom $300
20v oil pump front cover $50
20v Water pump $80

That there adds up to $16,905 which does not include Dyno and tuning time of $800 and does not include any labour to put it together.
Missed out a few things like frost plugs, nuts and bolts etc but you get the idea :D

There are cheaper ways, by using a Link ecu and GZE pistons which would cut down costs alot. + using cheaper wastegates.

heh all looks very reasonable.

hopefully it cuts down the number of what will it cost it to build xxx? questions in the tech section :P and limits the number of people who think they know better from trying to say it can be done for 2k

a not so hardcore engine can be built for cheaper.

to start with a low k's 7AFE with no warranty can be purchased for $300 if you shop around and have contacts in the trade.

yes there are many other cheaper ways but you will not end up with 330kw.
Id like to go with a fresher eng, that way u know the crank is in better nick than one built in 1980s rather than 1998.
This is a price listing for the person who wants the power.

Good list, all looks pretty reasonable

and about the right price for the power your making

And as you said that list doesnt include the workshop hours and expertise (not home mechanic) that has gone into it...

best way to save money on projects, do as much as you can yourself...

I would hate to think of how much more my build cost would be if I paid someone to do the monkey/spanner spinner work that I could do myself...

Dont know if reasonable is right, seems to be a fair bit in there that doesn't really need to be in my opinion.

Impressive the power you're getting Bazda. Sucks how reliable power isn't cheap (just so people dont read that wrong, I'm not saying your setup isn't reliable or anything. 2 different sentences in that last bit that don't relate to each other at all :))

Yes you can do it for cheaper (1/2 price) but you have to trade off on either power or reliability.

ERR  as i said before you can do it way cheaper using diff components as i stated, link gze pistons, etc. But of course its not going to be as reliable and a link is a piece of poo.
you dont have to run an oil cooler but with 27psi the oil gets hot really fast. you could run a cheaper turbo but then again ur gona loose power.

And this power is turning up my whoel drive train lol, hence the upgrade to a twin plate, and upgrading to a TRD LSD using a aw11 s/c box. Next will be the cvs and drive shafts, they will have to eb custom made if i bend another one.

As i see it the 20 valve blacktop head out of the box flows the best out of the 4a heads but when you get to modifiying them a small port 16v is better and thats wat we decided on for mine.
Sorry not trying to hyjack your thread just interested in your thoughts.
Vvega send my damn brakes lol

yeah n/a 16v's are better
but curently the highest hp turbo 4age is a 20v
but even then its all subjectiive

with the right gear i cant see why 1000+ hp couldnt be realised from a 4age
i just wish i had teh bank balance to prove that
