Actual 4AG Dyno Figures

Postby ee904age » Tue Apr 26, 2005 9:24 pm

I have done a search but only really come up with Toyota's quoted figures.
Does anybody have actual dyno figures of stock (or nearly) 4AGE's???? Any models, mainly interested in 16V's.

"First off, a baseline, the bluetop 4AGE in my AA60, out of an AA63 Carina. It has trd headers, 2" exhaust with reso + muffler, no air filter."

Result 85.18kw ATW!

Pretty impressive, I thought the factory output was "inflated" at 88kw at the fly?

That's probably on the Torque Performance Dyno. For some reason their figures often seem to be about 15-20% more than you'd expect. Good way to get business I suppose (would you rather go to a dyno where you'll get 80kW or one where you'll get 100kW?)

ahah ..i love those torque performance ++ power claims ..
there dyno is inline with world standards and all dynos we have from them are in shootout(which runs set peramiters with minimal correction) mode just as they are in aussie and the USA .
Reads higher .. i took my turbo ae86 to another rolling road dyno using different software and it read 2kw higher on their dyno. RX7Heaven i think it was .. east tamaki somewhere
Can scan that one in also but didnt really think it was worth anything
Only dynos that are apparently high readers are the Hub dynos.

Near stock 4age is Karls .. only the headers and no airfilter were the mods..
mine with stock intake and coby headers was putting out 82kw@wheels
A good bluetop in RWD trim will make 85+kw@wheels .. and slightly more in FWD

so you're saying Toyota (and most other manufacturers, as I've seen several stock cars put out more than you'd expect on dyno's), actually underquote their power figures? No, I think the problem is that most rolling road dyno's just aren't that accurate. Good for comparisons (before mods/after mods), but they always seem to produce figures far higher than you'd expect them to. Unless I've been mislead, and typical drivetrain losses are around 2%, rather than the 15-20% most people claim

15% to 20% is a lil high. try 10-12% fwd and 15% at most for rwd.

I've got no issues with using TP dyno figures to state claims. I've run on others with very similar results and also a hub dyno which was higher (as expected).

If ya looking for some good 4age dyno plots then the garagedori ones are pretty good to go by.

Having said that I've also seen a number of bluetops put out only 75-80kw on the TP dyno.

We have had a few bluetops run on a hub dyno down in Welly lately:

75.xfwkw - (250,000k's + I/H/E)
90.4fwkw - (same car 2 weeks later - I/H/E + engine recon + raised compression + mild cams)

The same dyno has run several stock silvertop 20Vs with figures that range from 77 - 92fwkw, blacktops 90 - 100fwkw.

I'll try to get their dyno plots posted up as a peak power figure doesn't tell the full story ;)

you mean 90-100kw for blacktops, Chris's old one made 92kw, Mine has 95.5kw which i would consider middle of the road/average

Pc's powergain was pretty impressive really when you think about it! 8O

i wouldnt say misquote ... but that all power figures stated are measured as a peak of performance and are probably not guaranteed :) .
Please see Orcon internets terms and conditions :P realating to their "bitstream" product. Then you get the idea

Toyota can make 500000 of the same engine .. you think they all will have 88kw ? I think not .. there will be the majority that are 88kw or there abouts but there will be exceptions where balancing is more acurate from factory yielding greater results and those that are slightly poorer but still within limits thus the slower motors putting out under 88kw.

To sum it up -
Heres the motor we built with its "safe fueling" etc
Lets Engine dyno 1000 out of 100000
Average them out - thats the power figure we get or along those lines and thats what is advertised

The bluetop 16V as found in ae86 is often misquoted as 88kw. It is in fact rated 96kw from all the toyota advertising material I've seen. I'm pretty sure it's the red/black top TVIS 4age that is rated 88kw and the red top small port (no TVIS) is rated 100kw.

My rwd bluetop made 83kw atw on colomus car clinic dyno with just the usual filter and exhaust.

That's one ugly torque curve 8O

Na your wrong my old one made 93kw on that dyno :P but your pretty close that was only intake and one extremely loud exhaust

i got 86kw@wheels on a tired old bluetop... rolling road
and all that had was a pod... thats it... so thats about as stock as youll get

im a beliver that fwd's will suffer from 7-10% powerlosses
rwd is only worse as it has to go though one extra 90 dgree drive(crown and pinion) so id be 10-15%(dependant on a lot of factors) for that with the 15-20% saved for 4wd cars

just my thoughs...

I have no faith in Dyno's. They are great for comparing before and after or two cars but there are alot of factors that are missed. For example your factory AE86 could have one of 2 different Diff ratios, whose to say the correct ratio is put into the Dyno. This can make a difference of 5%.

So when someone tells you that they got blah blah blah KW at the wheels at the BLAH BLAH BLAH dyno day, chances are that it is incorrect. The time it takes on some front wheel drives to work out the correct ratio is more then they want to spend on each car at a dyno day!

Also, why do you want to know the factory output of a 4AGE?

Ratios put into dynos are only relative to HUB dynos.
The final drive ratio in shootout mode makes no difference to the overall power figure.
And for the record all our runs are done in 4th gear as this is straight through 1:1 ratio on box -->diff.
Bluetops always seem to make more power than the old TVIS redtop .. TVIS redtop is the worst of the bunch in my opinion.
