Helmets for Track-days.

Helmets well I'm after a open faced one for trackday's.Had a good look on trademe and there does'nt seem to be alot about.Can anyone point me in the right direction???.

I already have a closed face helmet but I don't really like it as I feel a little clostrophobic wearing it and its a bit on the heavy side and it tends to get warm fairly quickly.

I don't mind spending a little money as long as its quality I'm not to bothered but I'm thinking like anything it can get rediculous so maybe under $4-500 price range.

coryn get in touch with dad and see where abouts he got our ones from, he bought one closed face one, then sold that to me, think he got an open faced one, not sure. they're really good and also covered for most forms of racing i believe.

If you are after a motorsport flame resistant helmet then they'll be quite expensive.
I run a motorcross helmet in my offroader and its considerably more open than a closed face helmet. Try it... it may look a little silly but they are very comfortable and have the added jaw protection although its outset from your face.

Made for cars, so not shitty vision like bike helmets.

Take note people

Most of the people I know that own open faced helmets bought motorcycle ones for around $100. Just make sure they comply with the AS standard noted in Schedule A and you will be fine.

the nolan range look quite good and cheap....
i think racetech here do them.

theres heaps of options for your price range, so dont bother with 2nd hand as you dont know if its had a big knock or not

my advice is go in to as many places as you can, and try on as many different helmets as you can, till you find something you like.

different rules for different track days, but the first one I went to I just got a helmet from the local motox shop. was about $60 i think, but he knocked about $15 off because the kid hadn't cleaned for a while and it was dusty

wasn't a fullface helmet, and no massive "certs" or anything but it was enough for track days. go have a talk to the guys at the shops, got a heap of info from them in the 5 mins i was there.

Don't buy a helmet on trademe unless it is a supplier you've dealt with and trust. I did, and got sent a "fake" helmet with fake helmet standards labelling on it. If I didn't know helmet standards better than the supplier did, I'd be stuck with a lemon.

Go to a motorbike shop, or a race shop.

Take a copy of the page out of the motorsport manual with you showing approved helmet standards

That ws my next question as how can you tell the knock-offs to the real thing.The pricing on Trademe seems to be very wide between some and others since I only really no to decent brand names I basically just concentrated my efforts on those.They were Shoei and Arai all the rest I was'nt that sure of.Another big thing I was looking for was something really lightweight but I will take people's advice and have a good look around some motorbike shops today.

Now Racetech I'm assuming thes guy's have a web addy maybe www.racetech.co.nz maybe.

Pay as much for the helmet as the value you put on your brain.
Personally I can't live without my brain, so the value is pretty high.

Depends who is running the track day. If you only want to buy one helmet, and want to guarantee you wont be turned away because your helmet isn't up to standard, then get one that meets the motorsport regulations.
somewhere around $160-$200 for the cheaper ones

pc actually sent my mrs to road&track for my helmet couple of bdays ago
got a certified helmet for ~150$ that is accdeptable for all track day use.
