check engine and oil pressure lights on

driving along at ~120km/h(passing a truck), oil light comes on, think, ok, will pull over when it's clear, then engine light comes on, uh oh, crunching noise, engine stops(like battery had been pulled)...

I think I killed my 2zz

Got it towed to the garage, will find out whats up with it today... anyone have any ideas?

Crunching noise?

Combined with the oil light, thats not really a good sign

Did you have a look to see if oil was dripping out anywhere?

no oil dropped, nothing odd on the road, oil still showing full on dipstick.

they were too busy to look at it this morning...(I guess I did just kinda dump it on their door step at 9:00 last night, and rang the lead mechanic)

They will have a look at it this afternoon if they have time, otherwise it'll be tomorrow.

not a biggy, I have my parents Opel Vectra... it is somewhat boring though, I used to think it was fast, and nice.

checked the mechanical insurance, and it appears to cover it(random mechanical failure), so yay for adding that into my finance.

Well, engine has been removed for stripping to find out whats gone wrong... looks like it's a re-build/replace job... oh dear

hmmm, I wonder if they would let me specify a few upgraded parts from http://www.monkeywrenchracing.com/

lower comp pistons
iron sleeves for them
bigger injectors
SC kit... ok, might have to pay for that one myself.

Will go chat to them once I finish work.

big end bearings gone
some valves gone
oil pump gone
cracked side of block(visible)

They're looking for a new engine for me, but they don't appear to be having much luck finding on in NZ, it's not that they are un-common, just not getting wrecked yet.

Yea, I was gonna say that the oil pump would be the cause of your problems. You've got enough oil, but no pressure? Thats because a certain something hasn't been pumping!!

heh, no, was in 4th sitting at ~4500(wasn't really watching the rev counter), there is a stop sign about 200M from where the truck was, so no ned to floor it, as I needed to stop anyway, oil light came on about 50M from the stop sign, pulled round the corner(no clear space before the stop), engine light came on, crunch noise, car stalled. 2 hrs later it was towed to my garage... it sounds really sad/pathetic, but I'm quite upset by it.

I am indeed thanking god for it, there will be a few things not covered by the mech ins, but it'll still be a lot cheaper than paying for a re-build myself.

heh, sorry, was meaning re-build as in re-build with replacement parts... I'm new to cars, I still talk like they're computers.

Oh hehee.

Well, basically, your motherboard is $&#$% and you need a new one. While you're at it, you might as well get a new pair of DDR2 to run dual channel as well as a twin core processor. Make sure you have sufficient cooling so it doesn't all over heat. Proper ducting will be required to ensure good ventilation.
As a precausion, you may want to replace your video card as well, as there might have been damage caused by the motherboard failure. Using it again could be costly and damage the new motherboard, not to mention build time.
If you're wanting to keep it stock, then I'd go genuine vid card. If you're wanting to overclock your performace, then I'd go aftermarket.

And just remember, stickers of your favourite hardware companies won't give you added *hz.

I see...

motherboard = engine
DDR/dual channel = turbo
twin core processor = ECU
cooling = err, cooling
vid card = pistons

The mechanic has said that if I want anything special, to mention it... I'm compiling a list at the moment...

any idea if the ECU will be able to handle a compression drop from 11.5 to 8.8? until I have money to add some boost(and after market ECU)?(yes I know it will drop performance)
