UPDATED! NEW MEMBERS / PROSPECTIVE MEMBERS PLEASE NOTE:

Postby BlakJak » Tue Feb 07, 2006 10:56 pm

Greetings all,

Due to the ever increasing amount of abuse originating from holders of Accounts generated via Free mail providers,

Toyspeed have begun to progressively forbid the creation of new Forum accounts via Free mail domains.

The obvious ones - hotmail, yahoo etc - are already banned. More will be added over time.

Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you - if you wish to partake of our online facilities you'll need to gain access to a 'paid-for' type mail account, similar to the one provided for free with most internet access accounts.

Regards
BlakJak

Just in case it isn't already clear - Existing forum users or forum users who have joined, cannot join and then change their email addresses to a free domain either.

Free Email addresses are no longer permitted on Toyspeed.

Existing users with existing, proven-valid mail addresses can stay... but if they want to change their email address, it'll need to be to a valid address that is not a 'free' domain.

Likewise we have always had the policy of requiring a valid email address for all forum users... if we notice that one is no longer valid (read: not accepting emails) we may elect to suspend a forum username untill a new email address is supplied.

Cheers
BJ.

A further change.
Some of you will have seen 'spam' account volume increase lately, along with a few posts to that effect.

As an interim measure - as we're still waiting for admin tools that'll allow us to be more responsive to this sort of thing - I have enabled 'admin approval required' for all new forum logins.

This may delay participation in the forum for new joiners.

Accounts that look like they're spam-like in nature will be removed on sight, and not approved.

This move is indefinate at this stage, until a better way of dealing with the spam is established.

Thanks for your understanding,

BlakJak.

Another update

As of this date we've removed the bans on gmail.com, hotmail.com, yahoo.com and yahoo.co.nz

This is an interim measure to see what impact it has on 'abusive use' - bans on other freemail domains will be reviewed over time.

As usual, issues or questions should be sent to admins (at) toyspeed.org.nz.

Cheers
BJ.

** EDIT: With dozens and dozens of spammer accounts registered, we've put the bans back :( If you really don't have a non-free email domain to use when registering, please send an email to admins. **
