my RunX pulling BOTH ways

Postby barryogen » Tue Jan 23, 2007 8:43 am

over the last week, my little RunX appears to have developed a weird thing where it pulls either left or right.

It only appears to do it over 80km/h.

Tires are fine, as is alignment, brakes are wearing evenly, I havent hit anything to bend anything, a look under the car reveals nothing out of the ordinary(like hanging cables etc catching something). Power steering fluids are fine.

Any ideas guys as I'm entirely stumped?

oh yeah, and it doesn't do it when in 50 zones, so I have assumed it is speed related.

Tyres too wide causing tramlining on road imperfections perhaps?

It has started randomly, no changes made to the car, it is as I bought it just over two years ago(well, height tire camber and toe wise).

Will get wheel bearings checked.

whats caster?
is that where you move the strut tower forward/backwards to change something? if so, nothing has changed
what would be wrong with it to cause this?

yep caster is when you move the top of the strut fowards or backwards, it its a caster problem then one of your front wheels will be set back further than the other and will cause the car to pull left or right.

if this is the case then take it to a wheel alignment technician that actually has a clue and once its on the hoist he will loosen off the subframe bolts and useing a port-a-power he should jack the side farthest back. foward until it is back into spec (of course this technique only applies if you dont have adjustable caster arms and also as long as the caster is not a result of bent suspension components)

where bouts are you located i could probibly recommend a suspension and alignment centre to goto.

i'd say its a write off and you should give the motor and box to me to save on the price it will cost you to get rid of the car...

on a similar note.... i have quite servere inner edge wear on just my left hand front tyre and have just had an alignment... the car is lowered and has had the toe and camber returned to spec, what would be causing the wear?
When in doubt, down and out.

dropped it off and beaurepairs, and there is a bent suspension arm, said it looked like it had been belted with something rather than a knock on something, but he said he was only guessing.

There happened to be a wrecked Allex(sister car, lots of common parts, as in, almost all of them), got straigh arm, and mate fitted it, and all is fitted, and working well again.

It's been an expensive month for car stuff(Tires and rotors for the Mrs Altezza, this for mine, and a service for both)... oh well, atleast they are safe etc.
