100km service for caldina GT

Postby flygt4 » Sun May 25, 2008 3:20 pm

the reliable old wagon has ticked over 100km now, as we intend on keeping it for at least another few years its time to do the 100km service, and i want to try to cover all the bases to ensure another 100km of trouble free driving.
its a '98 caldina GT, automatic with the beams 3s-GE engine
is there anything particular to replace while cam belt etc is being done?

currently thinking to replace

-engine oil (10w/40)
-auto transmission fluid (any suggestions?)
-cam belt etc, air con belt is already a bit slippy at cold idle
-coolant

anything else worth doing? is waterpump worthwhile replacing?

If you got belts off you may as well do waterpump, you should do the tensioner etc too.

Yup and make sure you have good coolant.

hey (my mrs has a gt), if you're gunna do the waterpump, make sure you get toyota genuine. however that might push the price up. as for the AT fluid, i'm not sure if i got it done in the mrs car or not, i got my mechanic to do the lot cos it needed a fair bit done, (96,000 kms from japan).

check CV boots as a couple of our ones had split when we got it.

do all the tensioners
do the cam, crank and oil pump seals, its a 3s they WILL leak
water pump
trans and powersteer flush (not just a fluid change) if they havnt been done.
also the diff oils.

yeah toyota genuine parts are very reasonably priced when it comes to cambelt stuff, well worth the slight additional expense in my personal opinion.

yeah not too fussed on how much it costs as been doing a lot of OT lately, but its such a good car , we'll probly keep it til its run into the ground.

are beams 3s any better with the oil seals leaking or still the same as all the others?

its our sole car now other than my work van so its a big pain if it needs an unexpected repair.

its a 3s, it will leak!
check the rear cam cover gasket too, they leak there as well

seems the altezza one is the only one that doesnt leak as much
