Hi Folks,
Yes, the Toyspeed Forums are a mere shadow of their former glory,
The likes of Instagram, Facebook and Twitter have overtaken the likes of phpBB
And also, our forum has been a bit broken for a while.
This post is a bit of a test, to see if it works...

Re: Fold down seat stuck up (wont unlatch)
Hah, i've been stewing on this for a few weeks, and 30 minutes after I post it, the problem is fixed...
Turns out that the carpet pops off (when I figured out how to do it without breaking it) and there's a metal rod with a loop on the end that screws into a bar (lever) to which the strappy bit is ...

Fold down seat stuck up (wont unlatch)
So when I got my car (Gaia, 7 seater with a 3rd row of seats) back from WOF one of the back seats was 'part way up' (they'd tested the seatbelt, and a soccer ball had gotten stuck in the footwell preventing it from going all the way back down)... I locked the seat 'up' to retrieve the ball and clear ...

Re: Steering went funny
Hmm, 1AZ? I know those early D4 engines were chronically bad for blocking the EGR valves, perhaps with low idle RPM on top of loading up the powersteering pump in the turn, revs stumbled enough to make the PS and alternator drop out?
Symptoms of a blocked EGR valve include a lumpy idle and power ...

Re: Steering went funny
Theoretically it is not possible for the steering angle and the movement
of the steering wheel to get out of synch. There is a mechanical connection
between the two, and you would know if something broke. But, if you
happened to be making a turn on smooth wet concrete, the car may have ...

Steering went funny
Here's a good one for the Toyspeed brain trust...
Yesterday I was pulling into a car parking area when the steering in my Gaia went... funny. It was like the direction I was pointing the steering wheel didn't match the direction the car was travelling in (or the trajectory change didn't line up,).
I ...

Re: Toyota Wish General Info
I'd certainly give some higher octane fuel a trial for a few tanks, worth a shot anyway. We run 95 minimum in our 2AZFE Blade, 91 is good for mowers though
LOL yeah.
I'm pondering now whether to try 95 or go straight to 98 - I usually buy at Z (fuel vouchers from Countdown) so 98 isn't an option ...

Re: Toyota Wish General Info
I've had a 1AZFSE driven Toyota (Gaia) for >2 years and it doesn't miss a beat mechanically - 91 Octane and all. (I do occasionally detect a misfire at idle, but it's such a minor thing that it never factors as a problem).
Seems to go nicely.

Re: Brake Light Warning
Or brake pads worn enough to drop the fluid level with the nose down when parked. Did you get to Ohakune OK?
Aside from being the first to come across a fatal car accident made it OK.
One little glimmer for about 5 seconds from the warning light when doing a U-Turn while on the way here ...

I will check again, just to be sure
Could be intermittent. A bulb failure would seem unlikely to be intermittent.

Pretty sure the car isn't flash enough to have that - i'm sure i've done brake light bulbs before now.

Brake Light Warning
So the (!) light that would usually be on when the handbrake is on, has a few times in the last few weeks been seen to be on when the handbrake clearly is not, shortly after starting my car (usually while the engine is cold).

Re: Automakers want us to stop repairing and tinkering
I'll take your point about the copyrighted material - at least to a point. Once you own a vehicle you should be able to do diagnostics on it, and not be limited to proprietary means to do so IMHO. A lookup of code-vs-explanation would seem like a fundamental need.

It's a long article but it tells an important story.
We should be really concerned about the ramifications of this.
(Sorry if this has come up elsewhere, I did have a cursory look first...)

Re: NAC insurance quote at $25 a week. Good or bad?
My Celica(s) were both in the order of NZ$1200 per annum... so if you're a young driver with a high profile car that rate is probably fair. Glad I drive nannawagons now in some respects!
