Let me guess, car is NZ new (or AU new)?
This is a dummy "O2" sensor, I believe it is there to adjust the mixture somewhat (it should be a potentiometer that you can adjust with a screw driver).

Re: Quick question: will removing passenger seat set off air
Any time when you work around air bag circuits (yellow conduits, wires and plugs) disconnect battery and wait ~90seconds.

Re: Not all xNZ-FE heads are same
Found the same with my '04 1NZ RunX. Sifted through online IPCs which indicated a standard electrode K16R-U11, bought a set only to find when I went to change them that my car has the long reach FK20HR11s! Fortunately our Caldina takes the K16Rs so not fussed, but at just over $100 decided to wait ...

Replaced chain tensioner in wife's IST.
Here is the write-up:

I would take cambelt over chain any day!

Not all xNZ-FE heads are same
Below is a very peculiar thing I found out today.
I have ordered spark plugs for my mothers Vitz RS (NCP91) on ebay.
These are genuine denso FK20HR11s. I got them for $30 a set of 4, so I grabbed 3 sets (shipping was something like $15). BTW these are sold here for $35 each (one plug)!

Re: Sump install tips
I have done it a few times in the car, and it was a pain in the ass all the time. I don't remember if 4AGZE (I have done that as well ) requires a complex motion to get around the strainer....

Re: Vanguard Reversing Camera
Toyota cameras run off 6V (yes, weird), thus you will need to get 6V from somewhere. In past I built a simple 6V linear regulator based on LM7806, small heat sink, resistor and a cap.

Yeah but seafoam still seems to have allot of fans across the Pacific. The science behind it is suspect... There's no solvents in it! I'll do some more research maybe give the auto Rx a go.

Re: 2AZ-FE High Oil Consumption
Wow thanks Sergei! Sorry I've neglected this thread. I've found the same stuff you did in the world wide web. The american dealers appear to be offering the rebuild at reduced cost, i guess because the sold the cars. The dealers here aren't so keen to do it with imported jap cars...

Re: 1998 Caldina 3sfe G 4WD - Slight oil smell occasionally
Thanks for the replies, might have to check the oil pump seals then.
I had the shop do it while it was in for the rear shocks (didn't have a drive at the time), so I'll have to check re the RTV, they're usually pretty good though.
Cam belt is due in about 10-20 thou kms anyway, so might just ...

Re: 1998 Caldina 3sfe G 4WD - Slight oil smell occasionally
S series often leak through oil pump seals (shaft seal and gasket). This particular leak will travel the perimeter of the sump and drip on the rear of the engine (due to engine slant).
When I did cam belts on these I always replaced the gasket and the shaft seal. Unfortunately it is a cambelt job ...

I ditched hikvision (got an outdoor 4mp one to sell if anyone is interested) and bought ubiquity just because it's simpler. running the unifi app in a docker on my unraid server and writing to the cache drive, working pretty well although the video upstream on my crappy vdsl connection makes ...

Re: 2AZ-FE High Oil Consumption
The Mrs bought a 2007 Blade 2az, i noticed the oil usage very quickly, while working at the local toyota dealer, we had varied success with slowing it down, we did a engine oil flush then ran a diesel 15w40 oil for one service interval then went back to the 10w40 petrol oil, did this to hers and it ...

Changed rear brakes on my dad's hiace. OMG, I forgotten how stupid the whole drum brake setup is.
Springs galore!
Why they keep using? More parts, less performance and pain in the ass to deal with.
Good thing that all other cars in family have disks at the back.

If PS pump is leaking Replacing seals in PS pump is rather easy.
I have done my STI pump after getting a $1300+GST quote for new pump from Subaru. BTW on ebay they are about $400 USD new genuine (and similar cost in Japan). Winger are ripp-off artists.

Re: 1NZFE disappointingly slow; what can be done?
Update:
I have got plate cut (~$60), couple of hours filing in the tapper.
I have adjusted the screw on the throttle to fix idle oscillations etc.
All sorted and performs more or less OK.
Here is the detailed write up:
