Re: Rego on hold and Indursnce

Great thanks for the info. I'll ask about storage insurance.

I'm not sure how long it will be off the road for. I now live overseas and it just needs some rust taken care of in the rear wheel aches, so I won't warrant it until the next trip back to NZ.

Rego on hold and Indursnce

I've just put the registration on hold for my Nissan Terrano. I called AMI to see if that would trigger a temporary reduction in insurance; they said it doesn't - does this sound right?

And if I move to 3rd party I lose all my ability to make a claim (up to 2 in a year) without losing my no-claims ...

...on a side note Dom is always very pessimistic on the property market. His colleagues told me he's been looking for a house for some time and holding out for a drop in prices (not sure if he bought yet - this was 9 months back).

So like all housing commentators there's probably bias in there ...

I think that's the Auckland market in a nut shell, skewed by significant tax advantages and leveraging opportunities.

Before we moved to Sydney a rental viewing was held for the place we rented in Te Atatu Peninsula - currently one of the big property hot spots (with houses selling in under a ...

I completely agree with rollaholic; I have no issue paying someone $100 p/h to diagnose and / or repair my car if they have the right tools and can do it quicker & better than the mechanic down the road who charges $60 p/h and replaces everything until it's fixed.

But what annoy's me is paying ...

Very Top Gear like clip.

Top Gear is excellent - but it's more of an entertainment / travel show now.

For actual opinions on cars, I look up 5th Gear Episodes. I think Tiff Needell is the best car reviewer on the planet (& one hell of a driver).

So where did you rent one from?

Supercharged Mini is the only 'exciting' car I've managed to get upgraded to. And a Dodge Charger in the states (it was terrible - but looked & sounded cool).

A common problem in Mazda's of that age is a poor / corroded terminal connections on the switch.

It generally causes the window to wind up & down slowly. The fix is to sand back the terminals on the switch / plug.

I'm not sure whether this could be related; but you could give the terminal ...

Are you kidding? This is the best thread I've seen on Toyspeed all year.

Look forward to hearing the solution.

This thread made me laugh (sorry drift-monkey).

Sounds like removing the rear seats sounds like your best option. I don't think the Mk2's had tanks behind the seats.

Reminds me of when my fuel cap cable broke (with absolutely no petrol in the car to get home) and when someone tried to break ...

Can't see the photo but I'm really surprised it snapped! Good thing it didn't go through the tyre.

5 years doesn't sound like long for a spring (not sure what mileage the car has done). I'd be inclined to call the manufacturer and see what they say; particularly if there's no corrosion.

The bigger and more expensive the car, the bigger the pay cut. I'm also liable for the luxury car tax they have here (presuming at GTS /GT would attract that).

I looked at an Audi RS4 for shits and gigles - it's like a AU$45k per year cut.

Plenty of jobs here bro. 35% pay rise for putting up ...

Who cares. New car warranty. Buy whatever you feel like, if it breaks - make them fix it then buy another in 3 years. I assume you're not running out of money if a $50k daily is a real option?

Exactly new car warranty and if you read up he says his company could pay the lease .
That's what I'm ...

I've moved to Sydney; after having a 4wd hack in NZ (one of 3 cars we had) I'm keen on another so I can explore beaches, forests etc. But I'm not too sure on the 4wding scene near Sydney and it'd be a PITA around the city.

On the flip-side; for a small pay cut my company will organise a new ...

Flappy Paddle Gear Boxes & New Car Recommendation

I'm looking for a new car and narrowed it down to four:
* Toyota Prado (mid to late 00's)
* Nissan Pathfinder (mid to late 00's)
* VW Golf GTi (2013)
* Toyota FT86 GTS (2013) -> No longer an option due to a six month waiting list.

VW have run out of six speed manuals so the dealer talked me ...

Totally agree - I think it comes down to the 'reasonable person' test.

I.e. would a reasonable person know a car had forged pistons when they purcahsed it, if they were not told? This is assuming the purchaser is in fact a 'reasonable person' - if they are qualified somehow, then it would be ...

Surely they could only reject a claim if it contributed to the loss?

I recall studying a case at University where an insurance company denied a claim due to a car having bald tyres. However the court rejected this as the tyres had no bearing or influence on the accident / loss.

You must act ...
