Hi Sergei

Did you ever get to the bottom of this?

My ST206, with 3SGE, has had exactly the same symptoms the whole time I've had it. I've seen similar problems described here before, but never a solution.

When I got it, several years ago, I changed plugs, leads and distibutor cap (rotor's ...

Excellent forensic work there -- and a useful description of the fix. I guess you're the 4WS guru now. 8)

Here's a long-shot: check the wheel-nut tightness.

Mechanics usually do wheel nuts up too tight and I read somewhere that this can put a warp into the brake discs. Toyota recommends 76 ft/lb for my car.

Perhaps I should add that I also wasn't thinking of painting over that hole in the end of the exhaust pipe and wouldn't recommend that others do either.

Exactly. I just thought this was obvious but I guess your tale about the Honda owner shows that we have to be careful with impressionable young minds.

I do, but not the braking surfaces obviously; just the rusty parts that can be seen through the wheels.

Cheers,

thanks for that info. My muffler was one of the things I was considering using it on. I might try it on my brake discs too, if I ever get around to painting them.

Hi Ae92typeX,

this is interesting to me. Could you confirm that you have successfully used "Hammerite" brand paint on hot engine parts? I emailed the company some time ago to ask what temperature it could stand but never got a reply.

cheers,
Russell

If you decide to paint them then they will have to be primed, and you will have to use a primer that is suitable for aluminium. I used a light grey etch primer on mine, for a silver top-coat. This is available in spray cans, if that's what you're using.

I'd also suggest that you only sand down to ...

Sorry about the misleading info on the Goodyears -- my memory was at fault. Many 'high-performance' tyres are not available at all for 15" wheels, but there are two 15" GSD-3s: 195/45 and 195/50 -- according to Goodyear's website. Unfortunately they are not available in 205/55R15.

For those fans ...

Hi Corona,

I just went through this myself and did a lot of research -- mainly reading through magazine tests. I think that dealer recommendations and anecdotal reports from users are interesting but of limited value in comparing different tyres. The tests by various magazines (and the German AA ...

Sneaking back on topic for a moment -- the ST-16x was available with the 4A 1.6L engine. I assume that this was not the gt-r, but can someone confirm this?

Thanks for your suggestions, folks. And Ultrapulse, sorry for butting into your thread.

I don't think our Celica boxes have teflon coated synchros -- but someone is bound to know for sure.

My clutch works fine -- only a year old, and my shifter is standard. I haven't checked my engine mounts ...

11) started at roughly 630 - finished at roughly 1130pm!!!

So, about 5 hours -- nice work, and good practice for the Curren.

Mine took a bit longer, but there were a few delays. Actual working on the car took probably took 5 or 6 hours -- but there are always unforseen delays.

Well, nothing lasts for ever.

Yeah, I guess I should pay closer attention to the sound to make sure, but my impression is that it is more-or-less the same in every gear. Is your suspicion that this might not be the result of suprisingly even wear? As I say, it is not a graunching or grinding ...

Hi,
sorry I have no helpful advice but I would be interested in what oils you have tried. My own gearbox makes a noticable snicking sound into each gear -- nothing like a graunch but presumably a sign of wear. It does improve when warm -- though, of course, what I notice is that it's worse when ...

Not many Altezzas are quite standard so it's hard to tell what the differences were originally.
