Kinda shocking to see that the two m60s i bought that i thought were good security are fairly average.

Cobra next time

They've been living off their name for a number of years now which is disappointing.

That page on the different brands is pretty scary, looks like NZ standards are pretty shoddy - just like you blog states...

That's why the page is there, it's a shocking industry to work in and I just don't like seeing people get mislead into paying good money for crap!

We (I speak as ...

Glad to be of service.

I noticed that the drivers door switch was a bit dodgy. Had to open the back door to get the remote to code. The door switches are probably the most unreliable part of Toyota's around that era. Hiace vans are shocking for faulty ones.

Still it's something I always check ...

May as well put this up here to bring it to everyones attention.
I'm not sure exactly what is happening with the NZSA star rating system. It maybe dead, or the MTA maybe taking it on (I've made a phone call but they have not got back to me!)

m

As the blog shows the NZSA are being as pathetic ...

It is called an anti hot-wire alarm and sadly it can't be turned off. Mongoose (and some others) have the same thing too and I full agree that it is an annoying pointless "feature"

The fact that the car does not start should be a big enough hint, sadly the alarm manufactures want to make their ...

car-alarm.co.nz is owned by Warlocks who still seem to be trading even though they have been put into liquidation!

Thanks

how about promotion of wider adoption of the Thatcham standards instead of the AS/NZS standard. Would mean people are working to a higher standard without you having to create from scratch and putting a lot of work into re-creating the wheel.

If you were to send out a mass email, then highlighting ...

Can you make your own standard? I know it wouldn't be a simple task.... but could solve the problem in a different way. Which standard would insurance companies demand an alarm meets?

a)Average one
b)Better one

Not saying which is which or anything like that as we know how easy it is to upset ...

The idea of a complaint box being added to the NZSA website was suggested. Problem is I can't see them adding one any time soon!
