PCC Winter Motorkhana Dates - FIRST ROUND 24th JULY!

Postby kiwi pauly » Fri Jun 10, 2011 10:16 am

Anyone feel like a few Gravel Skids this Winter?

After a shocking summer of cancelled events and shortages of venues, we are back to old faithful winter, and although the weather may not be as nice, the potential for skids is just as high and this time we have our shizzle sorted!!

Confirmed thus far are 3 events.

July 24th

August 28th

September 25th

We will be using the Tuakau Sale Yards venue, so surface will be gravel for all three events.

These events are always a lot of fun and new comers are encouraged. Anyone wanting to come down for the day and help out with timing is always appreciated as well. Documentation is normally around 9am, and courses start about 10. We aim for 4-6 courses per event depending on numbers on the day. The primary focus is just getting out there and having some fun. Event costs $20 normally.

As always, more than happy to help with questions or encouragement to get new people along. These are fun no matter what experience level you consider yourself.

A few videos from the venue to get an idea of what happens:

Hope to see a few new faces - Remember, you can do 2 entry level Motorsport New Zealand Affiliated events before having to become a member of a registered club, so it is definitely worth a try!

entries on the day, just rock up and your good to go.

no rally tires allowed sorry, no Winter or Mud and Snow either, must be standard issue road tires sorry.
this is not for the reasons you would expect, it has nothing to do with the advantage you would gain, it is purely out of protection for the venue. Rally tires would just tear it to shreds and we would be struggling to be welcomed back.
Tire checks are carried out prior to the event starting to ensure everyone complies.

OK - don't have the abundance of time I expected tonight - unexpected fault on the Mini prior to heading to Hampton for a Skid tomorrow... but as promised a quick run down:

*No special equipment required, no overalls or helmet required. Closed footwear would be preferred.
* Warrant and Rego not necessary, although makes life easier for us. Cars without will be subject to a very simple safety check. (spot checks on Warranted and Rego cars may be carried out)
* Drivers Seatbelt function ESSENTIAL!
* Battery Secure and Positive terminal of battery covered please (even if only with insulation tape)
*Passengers are not allowed unfortunately unless for driver training purposes and at the desecration of the Clerk of the Course.
*This is a private venue, so drivers license not essential.
*We are there for fun - I want to skid just as much as the next guy, but anyone caught being an idiot and outright abusing the venue MAY get 1 warning, or may just get told to bugger off -
*ROAD TYRES ONLY - No Mud and Snow, No Rally Tires, Slicks...well, I may let you run those just for my own enjoyment actually ;)
*The venue is surrounded by local shops so there is plenty of oppurtunity to grab lunch and the likes
* Up to 3 drivers may share 1 vehicle. There is no limit really, but anymore than 3 and it starts holding up the day waiting for veryone to get a chance to drive the car.

A Basic day runs like this:

Documentation around 10 - 10:30, we will try to kick into competition about 10:45-11:00.
We run 2 courses at a time.
Before each course, a demonstration run takes place, everyone is encouraged to watch carefully at this is carried out twice on each course - after that, you are on your own
Each Competitor gets 2 timed runs on each course, your fastest time on each course contributing to your total event time.
A minimum of 4 courses will be set up. Depending on numbers, we aim for 5-7 courses per event.
We really focus these days on having a bit of run, letting loose in the vehicle in a controlled manner, and gaining a few vehicle control skills along the way.

Any Questions, please, post here and I will be more than happy to answer.
Cheers
