perky anyone?

Postby bigqueez » Thu Jun 29, 2006 11:07 am

My AE101 Levin failed its warrant yesterday... :(

Apparently have leaking power steering cable and need new front brake pads. Sounds like pretty straightforward stuff to fix to me but they reckon it will be $600+ to fix. Anyone here know whether that sounds about right?

Even better, does anyone here (suitably experienced/qualified) want to do this job for me as a perky (for payment of course)?

Flick me a PM or post here if you are interested.

Cheers

$600+ seems a bit like they wanna rip you off. other garages could do the job for half that price.

Hmmm if that was me I would be doing a bit of ringing around and asking other garages what their "ballpark" figure would be, it could very well be that price if they are charging around $70 an hour for labour

what's a power steering cable?
If the rack is leaking then it could be expensive to re-condition. Brake pads, no biggie, do it yourself.

Mind you, it's not just labour here.
When the swap out the PS line, they'll have to top up/refill the power steering fluid (sure, easy job, but parts & labour...)

Mind you, if the rack itself is leaking, $600's not a bad price. it cost me a little over $700 for my rack end seals :(
Swap to a manual rack

thats what I was thinking, It really depends what is wrong with it, need more infomation, but the price of the hose, pipe, line would be the determining factor

Power steering hoses = expensive, more so if on the high pressure side if I remember rightly. I you want it repaired properly and by an expert ,take it to Mossrax on Belfast street. They have had a bit of experience with corollas of late.

I just had a mate get a whole new power steering pipe from the rack to the powersteer pump made for $220 for his ae101 levin. He got it from Combined Industrial Services on Seaview road in lower hutt. I have also had one made from them. Really good work and considerably cheaper than a genuine toyota one.

They will make one aslong as you take your old one to them. Then will not take it off for you. Normally takes then a day to do it
