What to do in Welly?

Postby Wildcard » Sat Dec 22, 2007 9:21 am

Hey everyone, firstly to those I have not spoken to in quite some time - hollah!

I'm in Wellington on the 28th/29th with my girlfriend. What's your pick for things to do? Seems I've been to Welly on business far too many times but never got out and about properly since Megameet errm 04....

So as a kind of Welly virgin, what would you suggest in 2 days? :)

Well apart from visiting relatives in Stratford we're pretty open to ideas ;)

Going to check out Te Papa, Mt Vic..... again, open to all the tourist dribble..... staying in a hotel right in the center of the city so any feedback accepted!

Head up to Paraparaumu, go visit Lindale, feed the animals (Warwick is banned there for life). Head another 2km North and go to Southwards Car Museum. Make sure you try the Chocolate Mousse at the upstairs cafe.
Maybe have a wander around the Wellington zoo as well, have a coffee at the cafe at the entrance, and watch meercats while drinking coffee.
Go watch a movie at the Embassy theatre.
If you're into books, do a wander down Cuba St and investigate the shops there.
If you're into transvestites, go wander down Marion St at 3am.

te papa is great coz its free  as long as you dont wanna go on any rides (you probly dont they are pretty gay)
if you have half a brain you might find something amusing there.

it also located nicely on the waterfront, so if the weather is as good as it has been, you'll want to go for a wander along the harbours edge, pick out a cafe for lunch etc, and even walk right around to oriental parade and watch all the chicks jogging/bouncing by.
if you have a rental car you might even follow that up with a cruise right around the bays, grab some snaps of the south island etc.

if you're out for drink in the evening, courtney place is the busy place full of pre teens in bikinis, theres a couple of decent irish pubs around, and a couple of pubs up cuba mall. just don't go too far up coz all the emo weirdo's live up there.

Or even just jump in a car and do a mission around the bays maybe shoot up to the wind turbine gives you a different view on WGTN.
