Anyone have a 2degrees simcard I could borrow possibly?

Postby B1NZ » Mon Aug 17, 2009 6:46 pm

Just considering changing my phone provider but as coverage is quite bad in my area on Vodafone and the Telecom CDMA network I wanted to see if the 2 degrees network was any better.

Would basically involve turning the phone on and seeing how many bars of reception were available.

I know the new Xt network has full coverage here but I think the 2degrees plan would suit me better atm

Thanks :-)

My understanding was they had their own network in the CBD's and then customers roamed on vodafone through out the rest of the country.

Buy one from FIX ya cheap arse :P  :D

Then you can sit in your race car making engine sounds while on the phone :P

Seriously though, coverage wise you will probably be similar if not the same as what you get on Voda at the moment

Had the Telecom/Geni people out a couple of weeks ago presenting us with the new XT network.
In reponse to prompting they admitted that the new system does not improve the coverage or poor reception in areas that presently experience this.
In their own words "if you presently have poor reception, you'll continue to have poor reception, only it'll be faster!"

One of the guys in the workshop went out and got an XT phone and has *less* signal strength out at home than he had beforehand  We give him shit about being able to make calls in Andora but not 10mins out of Palmerston North

A friend of mine(on these forums) works for telecom and has an XT phone, he was sitting in my lounge the other day making phone calls with full reception,
I can only make or recieve calls and txts in 2 places in my house if I'm lucky!

Makes for interesting times when I am on call for work haha

At least one guy I work with has absolutely zero coverage in his house. His landline is listed for when his cellphone is out of range.

And coverage variances between networks are to be expected. XT I would expect would be roughly equivalent to CDMA (same tower network), but unlikely to be significantly better. In general, fancier services require more coverage, not less...

So I was in Mobil Jville the other day and saw 2 degrees sim cards on the counter for $2 with $2 credit on them,

Turns out I can get the 2 degrees network tower from my place and I have 2-4 bars of reception on it depending on where in the house I am compared to the 0 to 1 I have on vodafone

I'm pretty sure that 2 degress is the same network that we've done work for setting up new cell sites over the last 2 years. they have been working on their network for ages now and suck a whole lot of money into the infrastructure.
they have standalone cell sites scattered around wellington at least and are in slightly different locations than vodafone and telecom etc so reception would be variable

I think that for the most part the xt coverage is pretty crap, remember with my job im out in the field alot and we all have cell phones. The guys with XT can get coverage where some vodafones can't but then sometimes vodafone is better. On the whole its not as good as they made out it was supposed to be.

my two cents
