Painter/panel beaters in Welly

Postby Mr Ree » Tue Jan 18, 2011 2:50 pm

Hi everyone,
my poor car has been in need of a bit of paint work for a while (clear coat has peeled and bubbled down RHS) but Im too nervous to hand it over to any panel beater. When I was a teenager, nearly everyone I knew worked in the auto industry, but now nearing my late 30's, I know nobody who paints anymore.

Does anyone here know a panel beater/painter you would recommend that does great work and likes doing after hours jobs ;)

Im happy to do all the dismantling/reassembling and as much sanding/rubbing back as is required to keep costs down, I just dont have the skills to paint and an oven to bake.

Any info appreciated.

Cheers :)

i'll talk to the guy that painted mine for me if you like. He's my mates little brother. No word of a lie he's 16 and he's bloody good. If your not comfortable with a young guy working on it though then I don't have any other options.

Thanks for your reply :)

Is there anywhere I could look at some photos of your car please to see what the quality of his work looks like?

At this stage, Im going to consider all options as I dont really have any others haha.

Whether hes 16 or 60 is of no concern to be honest, as long as the job is quality with no corner cutting, the correct choice of paints, thinners, primers etc, and its baked on in an oven, Ill be happy.

Does he have a workshop and the required equipment at his disposal?

Thanks again for you help, hear from you soon.

I'm not sure at this second. He got student of the year at weltec last year for spray painting and he did my car at the end of the year. He just started an apprenticeship at a spray painters so i would imagine he will be able to use their oven but as i say i will have to ask if he's allowd to do cashies. We were lucky enough to use the oven at the polytech when we did mine as i am also a student there. He's a pidantic little shit about things being right and he's great with bog as he did bumper repairs for a job last year. The thread on my car is here: viewtopic.php?t=82256

Reith, ask JJ. He has someone who was going to do some work for him (possibly the same guy?).

Thanks for the contributions guys :)

Its amazing how many panel beaters think its acceptable to return your car to you with missing parts/broken clips/overspray etc. Its almost like its accepted in the industry as the way things are done.

There are so many nightmare stories about ruthless panel beaters treating everyjob like a quick insurance claim that Im so wary of who I let work on my car.

P.S Cheers Girvs, I will contact JJ :)
