Anyone have a hoist i can borrow for a day?

Postby LEAKER » Wed Jul 06, 2011 9:12 pm

I need to borrow a hoist for a day. I'm really struggling to diagnose a problem with my car at the moment and i need to be able to have the wheels rolling to to be able to see what the f*&ks going on. I have 4 axle stands but i'm a little concerned about being under a car with the wheels turning at 35-40kph while it sits on axle stands 8O

No different to being on a hoist. Only the hoist can go higher

Yeah when i was young and stupid (So err not to along ago :P) on my first car (ae100 5a-fe sprinter) i put it on axle stands and hitting speed limiter, chuck in 5th let it idle and it will be spinning the wheel round 40ish 50 from memory. :D also i good way to check what type of diff you have!

i just dont really like the idea of being under a car that is held up only by axle stands (that state: "Do not use to suspend both ends of a vehicle.")while revving the car in gear. If it drops it will go through the garage wall and crush me. I would feel much more comfortable with a hoist.

For an extra bit of safety you could put some spare wheels under the sills/cross member/where ever?

Remember that having it on a hoist is not replication road conditions.
So depending on what you are looking for it may not be all that helpful.
What is the issue?
