Wgn Toyspeeders, I need your help.

Postby LatitudeNZ » Thu Aug 09, 2012 7:51 pm

So my car (Toyota soarer) just broke down.
The alternator failed as i was driving into the cbd. As expected my battery was getting drained as i drove around (had to drop someone off).
I tried to make my way towards Midas (The only workshop where i know the location of) and it died on Davis street.
I managed to get it to the side of the road safely.

Long story short, i need to get it fixed but i have no idea where would be a good place to go.
Any recommendations? The engines a 1jz if its any help. The car is currently located in Thorndon.

Also, would replacing the old battery with a new/store bought one enable to atleast move it to a workshop or would i need it to be transported?

I thankyou for any help you give me. Im in quite a tough spot right now.
Cheers guys.

Awesome cheers for the reply Dell, ill go buy a new battery tomorrow and get that swapped in.
Atleast then ill be able to get it to a workshop and not pay for someone to pick it up.

Unless your battery is stuffed, you'd be better off just charging the one you have. Probably too late now though.

However, if you ask nicely at the workshop you'll be getting work done at they should lend you a battery to get the car there.

Or try ringing Dave ward towing as it would only cost you about $80 across town, as thats cheaper than buying a new battery.

Then get the workshop to trickle charge your flat one while they replace the alternator :)

Could the moderators remove this thread please? Toyotas never break down, especially not ones made at the lexus factory, especially not those equipped with JZ motors. IF you don't remove this thread, at least create a "fiction" or " i had a nightmare" section in the forum, and relocate the thread, perhaps :) :) :)

To be fair, the cam cover leak was due to a lack of periodic maintenance, its not a reliability issue as such.

The coils are extremely robust too, they tend to start failing due to oil leaks getting into the spark plug valley, but 20 years of heat fatigue doesnt exactly help lol.

Id call 20 years out of a coil, extremely reliable :)

Do the 6cyl ones have issues with the power steering pump leaking onto the alternator thus killing them? Or just the V8 ones?

Power steering pump on the 1 and 2JZ's are on the intake side, so opposite to alternator.

The NA 2JZ has a dissy above the alternator though, and that is known to dribble once the o-ring gets old and perished.
