You would think a lesson would have been learnt?

On a similar note, i've noticed an area in the hutt Valley which i think would be great for grasskahna's etc, it is a wide open area of flat grass, it is council land (i assume), the area is gated and fence to stop people "practicing" when there is no event, and the area doesn't seem to be earmarked, ie no sports markings or posts.

how would you go about getting events organised there?

i've been to one event in levin which was effin awesome, but to be honest it's too much gas/time/ too early for me to go regularly, whereas an event in the hutt would be awesome

I guess you'd havee to start buy identifying who owns the land (council or private), contact them and go from there.

To Answer the topic line, no, a lesson will never be learnt. There will always be the few that believe that street racing is ok, no matter the cost to others, ot even themselves.

Anyone who condones any form of illegal racing needs to look at themselves and ask what they are willing to loose.

They also need to look at how easy it is to compete in legit motorsport. I did 18 months of competition in a stock standard 1984 Pulsar, and had great fun.

Nobody I know who does actual motor sport says that it is hard to get involved. It's only people who listen to other people whining on internet forums who think that it is difficult.

Having been racing all day Saturday (at a race track), driving through town on Sunday scared the hell out of me, just for the abundant displays of total lack of driving ability, or respect for the 1 or 2 ton chunk of metal that people are navigating.

it depends man. what you define as street racing...

i dont think a race 0 to 50 - 80km from the lights is that bad. but its still bad.

The street racing i dont condone is the races from A - B anything goes. can run red lights etc. now that is stupid.

unfournately Street Racing has been round since cars came out and will most probably be around till i die

so where is the difference ?

two cars racing well over the legal urban speed, or two cars racing well over the legal open road speed?

Maybe we should look at the important factors, like drug use (alcohol & cannabis) racing at high speed in the dark with passengers in the cars telling them what to do, and then very poor driving resulting in a collision.

Exceeding the legal speed limit does not cause crashes, and staying under the speed limit does not avoid crashes.

Reckless and dangerous driving causes crashes and deaths.

Speed kills! Oh wait, hang on, I've been racing (legally) for the last dozen years and haven't been killed yet that I've noticed.

I think it must be roads that kill?

The traffic cops are keeping us alive, bless their cotton socks.

They don't issue tickets to dead people, do they? So... issuing a ticket to you keeps you alive. We should be grateful to get a ticket.

notice how the police always drum that into us "speed kills bla bla" but the the drivers/cops/officials/prime minister got off scott free for the speeding to the rugby thing recently in the courts, So they were travelling at double the speed limit in some parts, IMO they should have been strung up by their balls as an example!

To me that says that they put getting to a rugby game on time ahead of an innocent member of the publics life if something happened

I heard those guys on Kent terrce got done, so if they were indeed racing they deserve what they get, although if they were racing you wouldve thought that she wouldve heard them coming? Maybe she was partly to blame for being on the phone/distracted and walking out without looking?

If you walk in front of a train its called suicide.
If you walk in front of a bus its called an accident.
If you walk in front of a car the stupid hoon should be thrown in jail.

and that would be because trains have right of way in all cases, and they are never going stop if you cross there path. an as the train tracks are privately owned, is is also tresspassing.
pc wrote:If you walk in front of a bus its called an accident.
yes, often is, unless it's a suicide attempt.
pc wrote:If you walk in front of a car the stupid hoon should be thrown in jail.
you hit the nail on the head by mentioning the 'hoon' factor. chances are, in most cases, the 'hoon' is in the wrong, or is doing something illegal. the flipside is that was the pedestrian crossing legally?, if not, anything that hits aforementioned pedestrian, is in the clear ............... unless they are committing an offence that was a contributing factor in the hitting of said pedestrian E.G. racing 3 abreast at excessive speeds ................ which , in this country , is illegal!!!!!!

no apologies for being unsympathetic to your cause PC, but i hope they rot in jail. you obviously are connected to one of the accused in some way, or else you wouldn't be vocal in support of their actions.
