A V3000 on slicks, driven by somebody who is an outstanding driver! That dude's done HQ racing, rallying, everything under the sun.

I don't think your average punter driving a V3000 on road rubber would have stayed with you :)

as good as could be expected, It was silverangel from TS, i think 1min 37's for memory, not the slowest car out there, but no match for 1.22WRX's 8O

haha will be much better once I get my turbo!!! I haven't seen the final results yet, but I think my fastest time was 1min 37.
I had an absolute ball!!! Got in 7 runs in total and had a couple of good races with a starlet and a pulsar.

That car handles like a dream and corners incredibly!! I overheard somebody commenting that it appeared I wasn't cornering any slower than the bulk of the field - just lacking in the power to get the speed up through the straights!! :x

Thanks to the organisers and everyone else who made the day possible!! 8)

And thanks to Mother Nature for keeping the sun shining!!

Would have to agree with that 8) I was sitting at Higgins corner all day in those lovely orange overals and i think the key to it for yourself was that you weren't over driving the car like some where, which was resulting in a better cornering speed 8)

Yeah was a great day.. well done to everyone who competed as nobody did any damage!! well not that i know of... and looked like everyone had fun!!

advantage of timing all day is that you get a wicked view of the track and don't miss a beat all day!! :)

Had a mint day up there... And got plenty of runs.... i think i ended up doing 30odd laps in the day. Overtook many cars, spun a couple of times, sweated buckets in overalls and helmet in the heat...

Car exceed expectations by running like absolute clockwork and did not miss a beat, which is a rare feat for any of my cars at manfield (having never left the track under my own power in any of my 3 previous outings). As such, i ended the day with an official time of 1.27, but some may argue that i went faster than said official time.

Mad props to Leon & the rest of Harbour Capital Car Club for putting on an excellent day

(also mention goes to neo for ensuring my old car made it off the track under its own power this time  )

Great fun.

lol that will happen if your noth thinking - or if you leave all your changing down gears till quite late trying to save your drive train?? You would be quite a bit into 4th before you had to slow for the hairpin wouldn't you??

Anyhow how'd everyone else go out there, some times to have a rough idea of how everyone was coping with the day would be good. Oh and i don't feel so bad about going to cricket now instead cos i had a reasonable game for a change

Damn, that looked like fun from the stands. Some of those photo's look pretty dramatic too, with the wheel lifting and all :)

Soon my 'daily driver' (supposed to have been!) will be ready-ish to take out.

Andrew: that was cool watching you and my brother out at the same time! You soooo had him on the corners. I think its motivated him to sort the suspension (and better cooling if anyone saw us 500m down the road from the track...steaming away...).

This sort of thing makes me want to get out there even more!

Leon: how far off is your corolla?

Yeah that scrap with your brother was a really good one.... i could get side by side or just ahead of him on the exit of corners and he'd just pull out to a couple of car lengths by the end of the straight! Damn his extra capacity and turbo!

I dare say when he gets his suspension sorted, and any other lil niggles out of the way, that thing is going to be a weapon...

The Corolla isn't a million miles away, but I have to rely on lots of other people who are all busy themselves. So that makes defining a time frame a bit tricky.

In a nutshell, wiring, radiator (semi sorted), exhaust, and a few bits of bashing and grinding that is going to require bigger hammers than are in the garage under my house.

Then, we find out if the engine goes :-)

I am incredibly impressed by the wee brown rear drive Starlet. I thoroughly approve of how stealth that car looks.

Hell yes, took me by surprise when you told me what was hiding in the engine bay, it just wanted to break traction all day long

Hopefully he gets bored with it, and sells it for a stupidly cheap price, to me.

Yeah I love that fact that it looks rangi on the outside and pretty tall (thats mag and turbo's fault). He is getting adjustables next week and that jag place (can't remember name) to make some springs.

He didn't say but I think he must be really happy with the achievement since he did it all himself (brakes, diff, engine, dump pipe, bigger turbo, water i/c...) from pick a part and the shed out back. I couldn't believe how well the engine fit in there.

Leon: what sort of times where you getting with the old engine? Should be a significant change with the extra horsies!

Andrew: I can't believe you got a 1:26! (thats whats on the official spread sheet)

Very slooooow, only about a 1:31. Should be interesting to see if more valves make that number much smaller. Mind you, mine is a fairly heavy old girl :)

Well adam got a best of 1:30 point something or other. So you must have been ringing the nuts of that old bluetop to get 1:31! Its all in the handling and driver obviously.

Goes to show that horse power doesn't get you around corners!

re: said slicks. Could anybody comment on how good these would be compared to some toyo ra1's or dunlop r's? and is there a big price difference?

Its a reasonable time considering the near stock-ness of the suspension. I didnt really know what the car was going to do timewise, so i went in with the opinion that it'd run whatever times it runs, and that'd be that. I dont really have anything to compare to/aim for (as far as what times it should do) as its a bit of a hybrid.

Price for the slicks i was using = ask GOLDAE86, as i borrowed them off him for the day.

Had a pair of michelins up front and and a pair of Dunlop Formula R's at the rear. Both are a full slick, and took roughly a lap to get up to temperature, so i had to take it easy. From that point onwards they were fantastic. Grip levels were astounding. They allowed me to brake much later and enter corners at a much higher speed than i would normally do.

How they'd stack up against an intermediate tyre im not sure, i guess i'll have to try a set of those as well to make a comparison
