July 30th, Levin Autocross

Harbour Capital Car Club invites you to come play in the paddock.

Autocross: July 30th

Donnelly Park, Levin

Directions: Left at second set of traffic lights in Levin, then keep on keeping on until the road narrows dramatically, and you see Adkin Ave in your left (also huge Donnelly Park sign). Donnelly park is on the right hand side of Adkin Ave, and you will see us in the paddock past the playing fields.

Required:
Motorsport NZ Car Club Membership (unless this is your first or second event ever)
$20 (or more, if you really feel like it), Helmet and Overalls (no Polycotton!!).
The willingness to chuck your car around a paddock and have a lot of fun.

No rally tires allowed, to respect the venue. Mud and Snow tires at the discretion of the clerk of the course (in other words, bald mud and snows are ok, otherwise no).

All playing to be done within the confines of the paddock. Absolutely no silly buggers will be tolerated outside the venue. We will call the police, and we will make sure anyone doing anything stupid outside the venue is talking to a member of the law enforcement community. It hasn't happened yet, but it only takes the once for us to lose the venue and the help of the Levin council

The venue is fairly road car friendly, but be prepared for some bumps and bouncing.

Awesome way to learn some car control, and dip your toes in the water. Friendly atmosphere, and drive as fast or as slow as you want.

If you want to get out in the passenger seat of one of our caged cars, we will do our utmost to get you out there for a ride. Minimum age 12, and those under 18 *must* have an underage indemnity signed by their guardian. If we can’t get safety gear to fit you, then unfortunately we won’t be able to put you out there.

If it’s very wet in Levin, we will get rained off.

Good name. I'll use that.

Would have gone faster in toyzilla than the slippy slidey 4WD. 2 fastest cars were the Starlet GT Turbo and Civic Hondamatic Type R. I can't keep up with them.

That's excellent Kylie. The more the merrier :) Up to about 40 entries, and then it just turns the paddock into porridge!

I am guessing the GTR might be a bit much of a handful in the paddock? Had a couple of people ask me why you didn't bring that out on Sunday to keep us amused.

This next event should go quicker, as it's just straight into the autocross, and will be able to run at a slightly more relaxed pace.

Yeah, the GTR is a bit low at the front, not really paddock material...

And we don't generally bring it out just to amuse the crowd :P

Plus, we all know with the best times being obtained in lil hondamatics and corollas, a big 1.6 tonne skyline ain't gonna have a show!

Thinking we'll probably bring our lancer hatchback next time...

I'll try get up to this one aswell Leon.
I'm still not keen on taking the levin out on the paddock.. but I have a few idea's spinning around my head for a play car, although it'd probabley be smart to wait until I have finished studying. I'm getting a very big itch to go get one soon though

That Civic seriously owns :) If you ever get the chance to drive it, that is one of the most amusing cars I have ever driven. You *look* at the steering wheel, and the car changes direction. You then slide off the seat, because it is rock hard vinyl dating from the early 1970's, and you sit on top of the seat not in the seat. You then slide onto the handbrake, and seriously hurt yourself.

Plus, you have around 15 horsies reaching the wheels through a two speed automatic (1100cc of FURY), so momentum is everything.

I make it sound bad, but honestly, it is one of the most entertaining cars I have ever been in. Trying to improve it, would make it less fun I think.

So that's what I did wrong - plowed through the water-logged ground instead of bouncing over the top like Little Toot (young people won't know this one - and no, he's not a NY Gangsta Rappa).

up to the top again...

Paddock should be nicely recovered, for us to tear it up again.

Also, I think Levin Car Club *may* be running another Autocross on August 20th, but that is VERY MUCH to be confirmed and only a possibitlity at this stage.
