Thought a few of you might be interested about this :) IMHO i think it's a fantastic idea.

Hi Guys,

For the Wellington Members!!

From Land Transport NZ:

We are wanting to get a whole bunch of modified/non-modified performance cars together and put them through the new noise testing.

We were hoping to get as much of you guys along as possible for this.

This wont be an official test in the sense that you won't get a certificate to prove the vehicle passes, but will be performed with the correct equipment, with the correct procedure and more importantly the correct readings and will allow you guys to find out prior to full implementation of the noise test, if your car will pass or not.

If your keen, post up and let us know, we were wanting to scehdule the meet near the end of August. We will see what date is best to get good numbers in attendence. Also location is yet to be confirmed, but will give you all plenty of notice.

So far we are drumming up support from MMC, REXNET and NZHondas and it would be good if any of you not covered by those three clubs would attend

http://www.mmc.org.nz/forum/viewtopic.php?t=45582
http://forums.rexnet.co.nz/viewtopic.php?p=61654#61654
http://nzhondas.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.ph ... 312#660312

ps. this will not only help you guys to figure out if your car is legal or not, but will give Land Transport a better understanding of what this new rule will do to the vehicles on the road.

Cheers

Rob

Hey guys

date and venue confirmed

UPDATE:

The venue and date has been confirmed. The noise testing meet will be on the 3rd of September (a Sunday) from 11am onwards and will be at the Hutt River Bank car park. Its a nice big area and usually very quiet, so will be perfect to give an accurate test. MMC (mitsi car club) have offered to put on a BBQ as a bit of a side fundraiser so bring your gold coins...

Come along.. get tested... get food... talk rubbish.. go home..sweet

From the sounds of it we are going to be getting a number of cars along, so we may run the risk of running out of time to do all vehicles. With roughly 5mins per test, meaning we can only do 12 per hour haha.

But yeah bring people alogn that want to get tested.

From what I understand it will be a "best endeavours" in terms of the number of vehicles they can get through testing, there seems to be quite a bit of interest shown for this & if all that have said they are keen do turn up it will be a handful & a half for those running it. Would pay to get there early if you really want yours tested so you don’t miss out

Quite right Rona... since there has been such interested we have booked the use of a 2nd tester (99% confirmed), meaning we will be able to do roughly 20-24 cars an hour...

It will have to be run as a first in first serve kinda thing, since we certainly cant confirm numbers etc before hand... so as you turn up you will be issued with numbers and called up when your going to be tested. It will also mean you can estimate how long a wait you will have before you are tested with each tested taking roughly 5mins... (two testers) 10 cars infront of you.. then 25min wait..

cheers

Who has? what test?

Brand new holden commodore v8s come out factory at 90db! Becuase of the australian requirements, the same requirements the fords have to meet. I think there has been some major wire crossing here... there is no way the new xr6 turbos come out at 112dbs...

I believe it is a different test procedure used in Aussie for new cars so not directly comparable. Although the results I heard were 99 not 112dB from my vague memory.

Ours is based loosely off the systems, there 90 db limit is for new cars and has been in place for some time now.. they then allow up to 95bd for inservice vehicles. Might have to tottle along to the local ford dealership and test a few.

Thanks for the comments guys.. it useful stuff.

Anyways... Sunday... 3rd... come... talk... eat BBQ... get tested.

All depends on how it is tested and the testing environment.

How far is the tester from the exhaust for track limit?
