Need advice from you Wellingtonians

Postby reesj002 » Fri Mar 09, 2007 9:20 pm

Hey all,

I came over from Australia in November and am enjoying life over here in Welly. Have hooked up an ae82 sedan, and am looking at getting a few things done. I was hoping you all could maybe drop some friendly advice!?

1. Got new shocks and second hand springs (kindly installed by Mr. Jihad!), however the front needs to go up slightly as its 10mm below warrantable unfortunately (think they are lows but may have sagged slightly). If anyone has regular front kings for an ae82, I'd love to hear from you. I just don't want the front up too high for obvious reasons, but also the back have lows and don't want the front higher than back.

2. Need to find a cheap painter to give it all a roughish once over white coat and take out a souple of bits of rust. Also, if I am able to sand it all back and prep it, is there anyone out there who would be down to give it a spray for me (of course for a fee)? Doesn't need to be a perect job or anything.

3. Must find either decent exhaust place, or second hand extractors and 2" system. Again., if anyone can direct me, that would be great.

4. I must say its great that you all are so interested in toyotas. There seems to be a really friendly community, having read through alot of the posts on here.

Hopefully one day, I'll go for a cruise with you all, once the rolla gets the work and love it requires. Used to have an ae82 hatch in Aussie, and was gutted when I sold it, but am very stoked with the new GT.

Sorry for teh long message but thought I'd ask for a bit of help!

Much appreciated.

it may be the front shocks

i recall you werent 100% on exactly what they were off.
if they have a lower seat height that suppsoed to then that could be why.

low kings shouldnt be close to being too low for a wof.

Thanks alot for that fellas. I'll definitely give that bloke a call. Just out of interest, how much did it cost you for the levin? Cheers.

Yeah I looked up the part number for the shocks and they're definitely for an ae82 fxgt. I had a look at the old ones when they were being swapped and were identical. They are apparantly only 10mm out when compressed, so don't know what the craic is. They don't seem too low, but I trust the mechanic so I'm going with the advice. They might have sagged a little so I guess that is to be expected.

Do you know how far below standard those springs should be lowering it? And do you know what the legal limit is here? In aus it is the measurement between centre of wheel and car rim, but apparantly here it needs to be a certain height off the ground.

Any advice, most appreciated all!
