Fun with Personalised Plates...

Postby BlakJak » Sat Jun 23, 2007 3:10 pm

A certain Wellington-based Toyspeed'r with a personalised plate that made remembering who they were very easy, was good enough to pull infront of me on a major highway in the last few days.... this despite the fact I was already in the passing lane and had a (slight) speed advantage...

Said vehicle would've been fine (had no problems getting up to speed) except my beefs were:

- Less than a car length between us at >100km/h when they pulled infront of me
- Proceeded to wind up travelling a little slower than I wanted, but didn't move left again after overtaking slower traffic... The passing lane wasnt long enough that I was going to have the time and momentum to use the left lane to get around them. (I miss my turbo occaisionally...)

I know exactly who it was; they'll remain unspecified, but its probably a timely reminder that if you choose to have a P-Plate, you are easily recognisable, so your driving habits really should be immaculate. :)

(I know mine are questionable occaisionally... so its sometimes nice to be a little anonymous!)

Cheers
BJ

oooo oooo was it me? Do I get a prize?

<Well the only car that sees motorways with overtaking lanes is the racecar, and that doesnt have a p-plate, so umm shouldnt have been me>

oooooo who was it, whos got a personalised plate?

If I was going to admit who it was, id have said so.

Im not interested in embarrassing them, especially as theres two sides of every story and I dont really want this to be a dispute... in honesty it wasnt really that bad. More just slightly irritating at the time...

... but it does really raise a valid point, a P-Plate can make you a target.

Yep, as I said, i'm not perfect. But having a personalised plate made it very easy to remember who it was; and recognise it as the plate of a member who uses these forums, as it happens.

By the sounds of it my point was missed... :?

Where did they "pull out in front of you"? What sort of area, motorway onramp etc.....

Maybe they had to boost it as they didn't want to get stuck behind your nana car j/k

btw I hope it wasn't a white STI

heh, yeah, dont get me started about my tank.. its fine above 3000rpm :P

It was on a main highway, im not really finger-pointing so I dont wanna be more specific.

My moral was simply that people with p-plates need to keep their noses clean, as theyre memorable :P

(My cousin in Auckland was on a first name basis with local cops within weeks of getting his... mind you the dodgy lowering job, chromies and 'bright' paintjob on a late 80s Mitsi didnt help...)
