ECU + Loom

Postby DXROLLA » Mon Feb 09, 2009 4:02 pm

Ok so ive bought a standard ecu (just to get 4age running) for my 4age conversion in the starlet and also a loom from two different people of trade me. my problem is i went to make sure the plugs plug into the ecu the centre one does but the two outer ones dont. Ive been to NZEFI to see if they could do it they said they could but dont want to which is a great F#@King help (i know where i WONT be taking my car to get tuned once its done  )

Anyway just wanting to know if there are any other tuning shops in Chch that may beable to do this for me or maybe an auto sparky? Cheers

Want or wont?

Also, you could try looking up the ECU pin out diagrams online and find the one that matches the loom plugs you and and the ecu you have then chop and change the loom wires to suit.

Wont sorry.

I was told when i bought the ecu and loom that they were both for a blue top 16v out of an fxgt. So unsure if that is correct or not

ecu plugs should still be the same. its just the ecu pin-outs which differ.
bluetop vs redtop sensor plugs are different, but all the 16v ecu plugs ive seen have been the same shape.

but its easy to forget some of the plugs, so if some pics are posted we'll know exactly what he's talking about.

can't count the pins on the ecu but those loom plugs are for a bluetop.
the loom should plug into the 1st and 2nd slots on the ecu, and i'm guessing you're missing the plug for the far right?

if they don't fit the ecu, you must have the wrong ecu (maybe 20v or something??)

Yeah they plug into the 1st and second slots but not the last one. So you think it mite be a 20v ecu?

doesnt look like a 20v ecu, doesnt the third plug from the engine loom plug into the connection with the body loom, then the body loom also plugs into the ecu or something like that?

Could be mistaken from another car though

ok was a bit confused as originally you said the centre plug would fit and the other two wouldnt.

from the looks of it you've got the correct loom + ecu, but you're missing the 3rd plug for the ECU. this is attached to the wiring under the dash which is why it gets missed - its not part of the engine wiring, but is required to run the engine.

i haven't done a fwd loom before, but I've wired up a few rwd looms which aren't too hard so they should be near enough the same.
flick me a PM if you need a hand to get it all sorted.

cheers

That first plug that's square is for a front wheel drive fxgt. That goes into the passenger footwell fuse box. Disregard that one. maybe you might want the dash side plug (from the ecu to instrument cluster, gauges etc)
The AE82 fxgt's have that yellow square looking plug

yeah you've got the correct loom, that first plug in your pic which doesn't fit just provides power to a few things, among other things. you need wires off it for the engine to run properly.

but on top of that, you will still need the 3rd plug for the ecu. i just sold my spare one last week to a guy who has your exact problem.

could try go back to the people you got the loom off on trademe see if they still have that plug or the car the loom came out of to get that 3rd plug.

When i got my 4age with loom i had to go back and ask them for the 3rd plug lucky they had the car they were wrecking still
