Anyone live out Rolleston way?

Postby thornz » Thu Jul 15, 2010 8:30 pm

Out of interest, does anyone here live out Rolleston/West Melton way?
If so, how do you find it? Is the commute to town a real pain in the ass? We are currently looking at buying/building a house, and looking at it, the house/land you get out at Rolleston is just so much better value than in town. Obviuosly the trade off is living away from town.

Anyone live out that way, and is it a worthwhile option given that both me and my partner work in Christchurch. I work in Sockburn, and she is in Papanui.

Cheers

^^ Lol

I cross the main road to rolly every day on the way to/from work. She's pretty bumper to bumper at the peak times as one would expect. Where at you at the moment? Driving Rolleston to Papanui each day would get pretty tedious I think  Sockburn is sweet for you though :P

Don't live out there though, so don't know this for sure :) I do know for a FACT that people driving out there don't understand what the end of the overtaking lane actually signifies though..... and that it ISN'T the best time to try squeeze past

I'm even further out, in Leeston, and think the commute (35km) is worth it to be out of the city

im building out there, takes me 45min form rolleston to rangiora at peak times or 20-25min from ami stadium to rolleston at 5pm

otherwise at 6am it takes 15min from papanui to rolleston

hope that helps
Its a really good place to live, not that far from town, be better once new motorway is built. plus there is everything you need in rolly, food, supermarket, warehouse soon

plus land is cheap as, especially when comparing how many m2 you can buy compared to town sections.

Huge Broadband waiter issues in Rolleston - will be remedied sometime but yeah...

A year without broadband can't kill you though... can it?

We are looking at building out there too, gotta finish the current place first though (I'm stockpiling petrol and matches for the final renovation).

Selwyn council = fail. As for commute, I live near rolly, it's about 25 mins to riccarton mall area in rush hour traffic. As for broadband, didn't have any trouble getting connected but that was a few years ago, as for speed it's about 7mbps.

i lived in west melton before i moved to aussy and had no problems, its quick to town whichever way you go, and there are ways to dodge the traffic all the way to hornby so its not bad.

currently looking at buying a house in rolleston as well, i like being out of the city
The four seasons in Australia consist of "$&#$% it's hot", "Can you believe how $&#$% hot it is?", "I won't be in today because it is too $&#$% hot" and "Yes, the dinner plate size spiders come inside to escape from the heat."

All over the place. Saturday nights ones were within a couple of kms from here, todays 4.5 was about 2km out the back of Rolly. The rest, are usually somewhere in between.
