SUBmerge invites you all to Trackday 06'

Just a point of note -
If this is a private hire day (which I assume it is) rather than a Motorsport NZ sanctioned event then the policy of the track applies NOT the motorsport manual. Some tracks specify that even private hire days must comply with the Motorport NZ manual, others do not. So a Warehouse extinguisher MAY be ok depending on the circumstances. For example I know in the past (don't know current policy) Taupo track has allowed cars with non homologated cages into a private hire day, this would not be allowed under Motosrport NZ rules.
Having said that, get a proper extinguisher and bracket so you can do more events once you get hooked.

Would you want to be hit in the head with an extinguisher? That's what we're talking here, if you're unfortunate enough to roll. Regardless of being run under a MSNZ permit or not, a plastic bracket is not a good idea.

I understand that NO extinguisher is required for the ToySpeed trackday? Obvoiusly the requirements may change depending on track and organisers.

We look forward to seeing you all there, and your track day has been advertised, so all SUBmerge members not attending our trackday, can enter yours!

good on you for sorting out a trackday up here!!

whats with all the negativity about the extinguishers(sp) sure plastic isnt as good as metal, and he stated that a metal bracket would be better..... so i dunno what all the moaning is about.....

its just destracting the whole topic away from its point, if someone wants to buy one with a plastic bracket, thats their choice, and i'm guessing the requirements for THIS event only need a plastic bracket......

Fangsport and Leon, i'm sure you're correct about your arguments about this and that, but geez, stop knocking the event and leave it be.

i'd be out the if my project was ready, next year

who is knocking the event? Nobody. Just trying to point out a safety precaution. No extinguisher in car, but extinguishers at marshall points is a hell of a lot safer than a plastic bracketed one in a car. It's not that complicated.

i don't believe there was any knocking from my corner either, simply stating a fact.
if people turn up to any of the street car eligible days down here expecting to be able to run with a plastic bracket because it was permissable for this event.....think again. as Leon has stated, there is a valid reason why they are unsuitable.

i'm all for this type of event (especially if it gets street racing idiots into a safe and legal environment ), and if it wasn't for the fact that it's on a weekday, i would have given some thought towards having a skid on Ruapuna.

all the best for those who enter. i hope it gives some of them the incentive to join a club and enter more of the track based events at Ruapuna or Levels.

Who's going to the Submerge trackday then?
I saw Brick with his hand up (in an FXGT Corolla?).

I have got an email back from the club, and yeah they said it only has to be within reach for the fire extinguisher and does not matter wether it is metal or plastic.

But I do agree on the metal bracket, as one SUBmerge member who use to rally a legacy said it was not fun when he rolled and had the fire extinguisher bouncing around since the plastic mount didnt hold. So it is better to be safe then sorry as you wouldn't want that sucker hitting ur head.

But will be great to see you there, there will be a very good mix of cars. Mitsis, Hondas, Subbis, and a few rotarys so should be interesting to see how car compare on the track.

Buying a proper fire extingusher with the metal bracket and mounting it properly is a no brainer!

The plastic bracket ones are not made for motorsport.

Its no different to using a proper seatbelt or one made with gladwrap.

Just out of interest - where is the best place to buy a cheap/reliable fire extinguisher that meets racing standards and has metal mounting brackets in Christchurch?

Try a NZ Safety Shop. I got a grouse one for under $50 at a local to me safety gear shop, with double metal overcentre brackets.

Try Butlers, $35.90 with metal brackets. You will need two panel washers to meet standard when bolting it to the pan and M8 bolts size from memory.

Equipsafety on Blenheim Rd, Chch can also sort you a fire extinguisher for $30 something with a metal braket, a lot of the Club guys sorted one from there.

I'm no scrutineering Nazi, but I've seen people fail scrutineering for race events with a strong as hell plastic bracket just because it was plastic. For this event it seems to be ok, but might as well go for something that you can use again, like others have said.

After talking to one of the guys whos entering this event at our last CCC Speed event I was keen, but that Tuesday seems a bit of a bastard to get off work.

Anyway, have fun guys. Looking forward to seeing you out at Ruapuna in later dates. :)
