TARMAC HILLCLIMB WEEKEND 1st/2nd NOVEMBER

Postby fangsport » Tue Aug 12, 2008 10:57 pm

SCCC are holding 2 tarmac hillclimbs on the weekend of the 1st and 2nd of November.

Saturdays event is the annual blast up the extinct volcano that is Mount Horrible. The course opens fast and flowing, then tightens through a series of corners through farming property before opening out to a steep uphill finish.

Approximate length :2.4km
Average timespread 1:10 - 1:25

Sunday will see the second running of one of the best pieces of tarmac in SC, the Pareora Gorge Rd. From a fast and flowing start, the course then allows maximum attack prior to a tricky mid-section before descending at a great rate of knots. Don't admire the scenery too much, one slip and your clothes will be out of fashion by the time you come to a halt.

Approximate length: 3.6km
Average timespread: 1:50 - 2:15

This weekend pre-entry is a requirement, and with the SI registers at Teretonga, it is expected the field will comprise of fire-breathing sprint specials, as well as a strong contingent of Classic Race Cars.

Regs/ entry details to follow.

Well, what a day!!
good turnout of cars (35-ish), a good variety from some serious hillclimb EVO, GTR and WRXes to some realy cool old classics.

pace was hot from the start at the top of the timesheets, with just over a second separating the top 5-6.
plenty of near misses from competing crews including a very spectacular save by Duncan McCrostie, and some rather forced recoveries by a rusty driver in a red TE71.

without actually seeing the final results, i believe it went something like this:
Tim Cook
James Marshall
Neville Stowell
Carl Vaughan
so it will be all on for tomorrows sprint at Pareora Gorge.

a certain TE71 owner can count his blessings , last corner, last run, sliced a brake hose........... bloody lucky it didn't last the day, as with tomorows event the consequences could be quite dire.

absolutely mint wekend for those who entered, saturday tried to deliver rain, but it held off. Sunday was so hot that we had to limit the event to 3 runs to restrict possible road damage.

bring on next year, as we endeavour to create a 3-4 round tarmac series in the central South Island with the other clubs in the region.
