Recommendations for dyno run in Christchurch

Postby Rollux » Tue Aug 11, 2009 2:30 pm

Hi All
Long time, no hear I know.
I'm gonna be down Chch way last weekend of August and i want to get a dyno run in before I start modding. i won't be doing anything ECU wise for a long time so tuning is , I just want to go somewhere the the people are knowledgable, friendly and reasonably priced. Any suggestions?
Cheers!

I got openly laughed at when I told them I wanted to dyno a 2002 Corolla :(
I'm going to try Harman's. They specialise in Holdens, but they were good to talk to, esp about my old VK! Seemed very professional over the phone, asked if I'd had a car dyno'd before, explained how it works, and asked if i wanted to watch (of course!)

I'll let you all know how I get on

Not at me, Yeah, right!!
It's cool, supposedly 141kw factory. We'll see how true it is. Should mean about 112-116kw@wheels. And it'll give me a base to see how well mods go. I'd like about 140kw@wheels to avoid being beaten by too many Honda's

Busy enough that you have to book up to 6 weeks ahead for any dyno time,
as there dyno is in use most of the time most days.

Geez, most people in this business would kill to be that busy!
We're booking a few days ahead, but I know others who are sending techs home at lunchtime 8O

booked at Harmans on Monday 31st August, as that's when i'll be in Chch.
I'll post the sheet for all to see.

So one days notice and then 24 runs on the dyno at spec was pretty good then haha. Gotta love mates rates

Will be VERY interested to see how this turns out.. Unless you have some pretty serious mods, 25wkw gain is gunna be pretty impressive

I get the impression they haven't actually worked out the true NM, just what the dyno spat out.

I'll eat my hat if a 156kw car can make that much torque though

Thats torque at the wheels..

Plenty more here round that figure..

http://nzhondas.com/forum/tech-help/831 ... ead-2.html

I cant remember the calculation for engine torque

WTF!! how are the Honda guys calculating NM?

a caldina 3sgte makes 324 Nm (239 ft·lbf) @4400 rpm
how does a N/A 1.8L make more then a turbo 2.0L

im confused

Divide the figures by the final drive ratio.

Hell some of those hondas make as much torque as the Veyron.... yeah right

torque at the wheels is a waste of time as it is multiplied by gear ratios.

324nm * 4.1 diff ratio = 1328nm

1328 * say 2.1 : 2nd gear gives 2789nm.

so your car may have almost 3000nm in 2nd gear at the wheels.

oh thank god, i was sh!ting bricks reading through that nzhonda thread and the figures. thinking "oh my god they figured how to get torque out of hondas"

BWDOWN: those wheels do look good blue.

Is stock at the moment. Kompressor on here has 130kw at the wheels with one with ported standard headers, camcon and intake. i plan on doing full race header, intake, p&p IM, cams and PFC. (BTW, it will be over the next 2 years or so, is the wifes DD)
i'll keep you all posted on progress.

I can gurantee a 3sgte wont make 1300+ NM on a roller dyno unless its putting out well over 200wkws, who here has run a car on a dyno in chch and willing to post some torque figures for comparison..

Cheers frost, better than all the shitty chrome still round chch hahaa
