Pink stickers

Whats the rules surrounding front bumpers?
I've been getting some rust work done on my car lately, and as such have had various panels removed. I lent my car to a friend yesterday to go and pick up some parts for his car (which his G/F so graciously crashed on the weekend) and he got pulled over. The cop threatened to Pink Sticker my car due to the fact it had no front bumper. He didn't ask to see a cert or anything (as my laser wagon is now BPT with a front mount), which the car has.
Did he have the right to pink sticker my car?

(he didn't, but he sent him home to put one on with the threat that if seen out in it again with no front bumper it would be pink stickered)

Cheers all
Brett

No front bumper = unsafe projections & failure to meet crash requirements = pink sticker

Even though the intercooler doesn't protrude further than the grill and lights when looking at it from side on? i.e the first part of my car to hit a pedestrian would be the lights/grill?

Thats kind of what I thought. I drove past several cops in the last few weeks with no bumper AND no bonnet and they didn't do anything. I do have genuine reasons, I'm not just driving it like that for wank factor or anything.

I understand that they feel it is unsafe but isn't a pink sticker a bit extreme?

it could be that its always been law and the're cracking down on that particular thing. when i was arrested for imitation fore arms in town many years ago, they told me that they were making a big deal over it cos a few days before, a cop was shot with a shotgun.

could be tat they need quota filled like is talked about alot... or he just could have not got any the night before :0

Yeah, he said 'We've been told to start pink stickering any cars that have no front bumpers' so I'd say you're right

to be fair, as stated above it is an unsafe- you shouldnt be able to get a wof like that for example.
also as above, it can come down to the individual officer. If you explain you are getting another or one repaired most would say fine, but it is in their right to take further action
Cant believe im still a member here.

Im not entirely sure how much more (bad eng) un safe it is. The intercooler does not protrude past the grill and lights, the piping is much rounder and more flexible than any bumper (due to the rubber fittings), and I have ensured that the mounts aren't jagged and/or protruding. My bumper has a large hole in it to make room for the bottom half of the intercooler any way, so I don't feel that having it on would make much difference. Obviousley I don't know that for sure, the only proven method would be to go and run a few people down and conduct a theorem based on with and without the bumper. I'm not to keen to do that though, so I'm going to put my bumper on. It just means its one more hassle thing to take off and put on every time I go to the panel shop. But, if tis going to save lives, guess it has to be done

They more worried about the main impact point if you hit a pedestrain more than anything else, if you hit one without a bumper it's probably 50/50 if the person/s goes under the car or over it, believe that with a bumper it's supposed to be higher chance of over which sounds like bs to me but thats what i got told when pulled over without a bumper, amazing what you can find out and get away with if you ask the right questions in the right tone :)
