REASONS FOR NOT HAVING OPTIMAX IN NZ
1. Shell has taken a competitive decision not to enter the 98 niche and focus on the main 91 and 95 grades.
2. Market size does not warrant three suppliers. Would not be able to supply at all sites across NZ outside of 2 or 3 main centres. If sites have to have 3 grades of petrol + diesel it requires extra tank.
3. Separate piping and tanks required means that the supply of 95 or diesel would be taken away from sites where the 98 was being sold (like Mobil & BP already do).
4. Removing 95 forces the price up for people who do not want the 98 and makes it hard for a majority user to obtain their grade of choice.
5. Distribution requires dedicated port storage tanks and pipes. Market demand is too small to warrant the infrastructure costs.

Essencially the answer is no, however it isn't a blanket no.

They said I could ring Shell australia and order it from them, and said that they would do it, but it would have to be big order, and probably a pain to get through customs(additives etc)

The other alternative is to use Shells "Racing 100" fuel, racing licience needed to buy it, which is used by Toyota for the Toyota racing series(13(.5?):1 compression rate on those), 20L @ ~$140, or 200L @ ~$1280(dangerous goods storage licience needed).

This is an interesting one... they are going to get an account manager to "look into it"... he's going to call me.
Basically they said if we can cause enough noise(and by we he means all of us, and the other car clubs, then they may change it) it may be possible.

they use stock compression which i think is about 11:1
