My WOF

Postby Luke28 » Fri Apr 13, 2007 6:12 pm

Took my car in for a wof today, and it faild on 2 things.
(1) An exhaust leak. Which is understandable..
(2) Exhaust noise (louder than standard system) which im not to sure about...

Can i be failed for it being louder than the standard system??
I thought it would be fine as long as it was under 95db right?

No, you can be failed for the being significantly louder than factory. Go to www.ltsa.govt.nz and search for VIRM. All the warrant stuff is under that

EDIT - Or just click this: http://www.landtransport.govt.nz/certif ... n-service/

If your exhaust is standard, or close to, you'll probably find that the leak is contributing to the noise.
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

resonator will not help. get a proper muffler, other wise you always will have trouble with WOF, cops and annoyed neighbours.
Or you can do a measure at LVV place so they will give you certificate for you muffler being quiet enough (if it is).

Put a muffler in it. You don't need a really loud car and it is annoying for most people.

the big wank off tip is the problem.

its acts as a megaphone and makes the exhaust sound like crap

those baffles are b/s
techniqult illegal, and so so restrictive.
just get a decent muffler and bin that cannon, sell it on trade me for more than the new muffler and make some $$ out of it

I scored a standard exhaust the other day for $50 from headers back. gona put that on for the wof. Changing gears at 3.5k and the exhaust aint even all that loud. ive seen SOO.... many cars that are SOO.. much louder!!!! and it doesnt sound like crap.. its not tinny and its got a
nice rumble. or should i say (rice rumble)
oh well see what happens. might deside to keep the standard one on. or might throw the ''wank off'' exhaust back on there.
