Superstrut

Postby Jdawg » Sun Apr 29, 2007 8:44 pm

Whilst reading all the posts that mention Superstrut in ST2xx chassis it seems nobody likes this setup and prefers standard MacPhyerson strut.
Why is this?
I have fallen into the ownership of a 95 Curren with SS and from what I have driven, far prefer it to the many Mac Strut cars I've driven. Admitedly, I have only driven around town and Highway cruising,, but it seems more surefooted and predictable. The turning circle is huge, but, to me hasn't presented a problem and is something I can live with.
This car is most likely going to end up a track toy to play with, so I guess I need to know if there is a hidden nightmare awaiting when this car starts getting pushed.
Is there seriously anything wrong with SS?

I could be wrong.... but

I think the rate of parts failure of SS compared to non-SS is higher and can be a lot more costly to replace.

this is common in AE chassis anyways

yeah cost on a st# chassis is rather high to replace.
however unless youv lowered in silly amounts it should only need replacing once.
depends on use though

as for handling. 99.99% wont notice a difference

With superstrut in the ST202/206 you get twinpot calipers and bigger disks, ABS, and if its manual I think you will have an E56 gearbox (bigger stronger) with an LSD of some type...
Warwick - if it says C is that viscous or torsen lsd?... oh yeah I took a pic of your house - I will post it up.

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

I was forced to swap my SS ST205 out with a non SS 206 front end. This is simply because I believed the SS too weak for rallying. If I were to go roundy round I'd certainly retain the SS.

Thanks for the replies.
Car is a 3SGE and auto, no lsd, and was imported by mistake so doesn't comply, I have to do something with it so I am thinking of turning it into a club car, I have some nephews who I would prefer learn high speed driving in the proper environment.
Just going to be a general play car. At the moment I'm running around on a trade plate and like the way it drives

I might still have some manual bits from a ST206 Curren - might help for a manual conversion if you are interested.
