Has a rotary ever been able to drive home after skidfest?! A mate of mine who entered the comp said one of the other guys showed him receipts for a $6-8k rotary rebuild in which he destroyed that day 8O

The only rotary that blew up on the day was the 323 hatch, one of the judges overheard his mate talking about how they were putting in a new clutch the night before, and one of the bolts was stripped-kept spining, so they broke out the welder and tacked it to the flywheel.. now doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out what that would do to a solid (should be ballanced) rotating mass at high rpm.. hit 9000 rpm + and BanG! (this story is all second hand though)

Other than that you will often see rotaries blow there radiators up, Sitting at high rpm the accessive heat and preasure build up can pop off top tanks etc..

One of the nissans left a conrod on the pad! that motor will be a mess..

Forgot to mention in regards to the guy that blew his rotary right after his expensive rebuild - that wasn't this skidfest, it was the one before that :)
