I have a car which doesnt go and needs to be towed,

can i drive the car which is being towed without a license?

you would be pretty unlucky to get done for it.
I rang up the local police station last time i did it, they said just to do it in off peak traffic and use hazards.

Given that you will be subject to all the same situations as a normal car (except using the accelerator), then it would be logical to assume that the person getting towed should have a license.

Is the licence in question driver licence or rego?
You don't need rego to be towed but you need current driver licence.

your not allowed to tow a car without a wof or rego. if u want to move it and it hasnt got a rego of wof u have to put it on a trailer or car dolly... stupid but true..

I think this came up a while ago but this is not true as you state, I t was confirmed by a person that works for NZTA :wink: The no license part could be the issue though?

Not in fact true. Has been answered to the contrary a couple of times, linking to NZTA documents stating that the vehicle under tow needs neither reg nor wof.

Personally I think its a stupid idea to use hazards whilst towing, as then no one can see you indicating. Its even worse when the "tow-er" chucks theirs on making all other drivers oblivious to your combined actions apart from that your towing a vehicle.

KP Starlet with no power + semi gravel autocross. Was a brilliant day of sliding around very slowly, I'd recommend it to anyone. Insane slip angles, all while not really doing more than 50kph. 8)

does anyone have links to those ltsa documents mentioned because i cant find shit,

also the fine and suspension notice i got when i got when i lost my license have a completely different drivers license number from my own eg AZXXXXXXXX and mine is DDXXXXXXXXX, is that grounds to get off?

As for towing i usually tow with hazards on while driving on straights etc. and before i get to intersections etc. turn them of and indicate.

FWIW I agree with you. And yet in a recent road regulation modification they made it legal for vehicles being towed to use hazard lights. Note, not the tower, only the towed.

as for this thread, you need to hold a license suitable for the class of vehicle you're being towed in, the only difference functionally is that your means of propulsion is external, not internal. As for the wof/reg required discussion, it was always myunderstanding that if you're being towed and you're not on a trailer, you need both; for example there needs to be assurance your brakes work?? There used to be an easy reference, but LTNZ yanked all their data into 'fact sheets'... sigh...
