GT Caldina buyers checklist?

Postby peas » Sat Mar 12, 2011 8:29 pm

Hi guys, looking at getting a GT Caldina with the beams engine. Is there any particular areas to get looked at. I know they are prone to cracking exhaust manifolds and breaking the bootlid handle (not so much of a major) but other than that do you just do the basics like looking into the oil cap for cleanliness and listening for clunks and whines?

Similar stuff when checking a GT-T i imagine. Check for the usual 3S leaks from the head, noisy wheel bearings.

From the head? Do you mean the rocker cover gasket leaks that the 3S is prone to?

search

GTT and buying

in the search function, covered many many times what to look for. Most of it will still apply I assume to the GT model 8)

Not aware of the manifold being an issue on GT's?

They're fairly solid & reliable cars; just check for the normal things:
* bearings
* clutch slippage / gears grinding / rough auto trans
* no corrosion in the radiator
* boots & seals are intact. CV clicking
* pannels are straight & paint looks good

I've seen many flick past 200kms without issues.

My TZ-G is at 230K-K and still going well, though it's slowly building up some annoying niggles. Switch for the rear demister has broken and the A/C slider switch is a bit funky...
