Nbr articles suggests its 15 demerit points for no vehicle licence.

also in the article: The new penalties applied only to those tickets served personally by a police officer.

Police would continue to give a person, ticketed for the first time with an unlicensed car, a two-week grace period to licence their vehicle before any penalties applied.

What about the holding up the traffic?
Additionally aren't those two things are same.

Also what gets to me, is vagueness of the points above.
Operating a vehicle that exceeds XXdb at XX distance will be much better and fair.

Geez that's real harsh.

It's not like you can get out of not having your car registered - they backdate it when you renew it. Registration is such a trivial thing (charging interest on late registrations would be far more equitable).

Some of these stories remind me of what happened to my Dad. Years back he handed the number plates of his Toyota Crown in at the Waitakere Police station, telling them he had sold the car and wanted it degregistered. A couple years later he was sent demand notices for overdue licencing. Then VTNZ refused to deregister the car because he couldn't produce the plates & they also wanted to recover 'overdue licencing fees; - it took months for him to sort it. :roll:

It is $100 and 15 demerits for no rego now. I think it's meant to be a deterrent to people putting rego on hold and driving anyway, but whatever.

If you're only out by a month or so, I'd get some new rego, then write in to the police address on the back of the ticket and say you've got rego now. They will probably (but not definitely) let you off the ticket, 'cos rego is one of the offences cops can offer compliance on, as far as I know.

Yup you can have your car ordered off the road because a police officer decides its too noisy + fine + demerits, yet you can blatantly run a red light and just get a small ticket?

This is a very stupid, if a cop has a bad day, he can fine you no matter what your vehicle is, as he can just say you operated your vehicle in a noisy way without any proof.
Same thing for speeding.
Lets hope NZ police does not get corrupted like in most of the countries.


Need to invest in a dash/rear view cam, with backup hidden storage.

Don't see a heck of a lot of Harleys getting pulled over and charged with operating a bike in a noisey manner.

I have a feeling that Bikes are exempt from the noise regulations, I also heard that Harleys come factory with a silencer and these are binned when they arrive in the country.

Mine point was more at the opperating in a noisey manner :wink:

Just like a driver of a car with an exhaust within the legal db rating can be done.

My dad got pulled over and done on his GPZ500 with a cycleworks exhaust, which is inside the limit... bike are not exempt, but the limit is higher. But its not a Harley its a Japaneese sports bike. Its Like there is almost two different rules between Japaneese performance vehicles and American "Muscle".
