christ you are arguing about which Toyota product is going to be the most reliable out of the two? Either option is still going to be reliable. Pick the one which you enjoy and most and is the most practical out of the two. Personally myself I would go for the 3.0L Gita wagon in 2WD if possible. The Altezza just feels like more of a premium vehicle than the Caldina, even if it isn't as quick in a straight line. Fuel economy will be similar. The 1G-FE is painful in the Altezza sedan I can imagine it would be worse in a heavier wagon.

The two wagons are different in nature. I think drive them and choose.
Caldina probably has a bit more boot space, is sportier. The Gita more comfy/luxurious. Like Fuel I'd go for the 3ltr 2wd. had one for a weekend and loved it.

Only problem being that the 2JZ Gita's are all auto's as they did not make a manual.

i'd agree here:
had mine 7+ years
ive done ~85ish kms
mind you I have never had manifold warp on mine...
mines ex-signature class, was imported at 2 yrs old, has been owned by a business, a mechanic from Toyota, then some chump before me that didnt have a clue about cars
done 186kms now
only thing ive had go was wheel bearing, wastegate actuator diaphram and handbrake tensioner spring thing, oh and a CV boot, apart from normal servicing

PS its for sale ;)

Okay, I'll admit it too - I've had to replace a CV boot, a set of brakepads and a set of tyres in addition to my manifold fix. But that's it. Oh and loads of oil, oil filters, a fuel filter & air filters. But that's really it.

It doesn't burn through oil which I find surprising too. Every other car I've had with similar kays did (especially my BZ Touring).

Very surprised to hear you haven't had the manifold warp Santa.

Manifold, clutch and perfect otherwise, went like stink and had a boss boot for transporting shiz

I don't like either of them, they are both hideous looking and overpriced for such old cars. You can get a whole lot newer car for the money they command. Don't make your good lady drive around in such an ugly car.

yeah i've been watching several auctions of those Matt. I know most toyotas are reliable as my trueno and fxgt have been reliable, but some models just seem to get plagued with faults. Not every toyota model mind you but like everything there are pros and cons and just want people's honest opinions and thoughts 8)

Crispy, if youre going to buy a GT-T, dont buy one that has ever been owned by a fcukwit, or has ever been run on 91, or has ever had the boost turned up, or has evidence of a boost tee etc which may have been fitted, or one that doesnt appear to have been serviced properly etc etc
thats just asking for trouble
common sense, but definitely worth putting a bit more effort into considering some of the dickheads out there
ask leading questions like does it go much better on 98 compared to 95 compared to 91? does economy change much between the fuels?
how long can you get away with doing oil changes?
how well does it launch?
can you easily do helicopters?

many answers to some of those questions will instantly turn you off one which hasnt been treated right straight away....

totally.. i always bust out the "so does it do good skids?" question.. fastest way to find out if its been thrashed is to make it sound cool if it has, they soon come clean lol.
