I doubt you will have any issues registering it. It meets the criteria for a special vehicle. I think it will be a pretty straight forward thing to bring it in.
Best thing is to contact the relevant department here now and give them the details and see what they say.

When you say relevant department, how do you mean? The AA?

Perhaps just ringing a shipping compay would be easiest as they will no doubt know what else I need to do.

No, don't ring a shipping company, they know about putting stuff on boats, not putting number plates on cars.

Email

AA
VTNZ
VINZ

They all have websites and all have entry compliance branches. They're at the end of an email address.

If you ask MAF, Customs or a Shipping Company you will get advice from experts on Biosecurity, Taxation, and Shipping. None of them will know enough about vehicle compliance to actually answer any questions intelligently.

As I've said several times, because your TE27 is so old, it should be a walk in the park as far as regulations go, because it is old enough that bugger all in the way of vehicle standards even existed when the car was constructed.

dont bother to email VINZ and VTNZ... they wont reply. AA did email though but doesnt seem to know about technical stuff when asked. I guess it will depend on whoever in their tech dept gets your email.
Have a read on the NZTA website, its all there.
