Bought a Honda - but its OK because it's a V Twin

So I recently sold my car as it was starting to cost too much to run with fuel etc wah wah.

I've been driving the wife's celica for about a month and it is only saving me about 15% on fuel. 4.4L V8 vs 2.0L I4. The problem is the auto gearbox. 3spd + overdrive = fuel suckage.

Figured I'd fix the problem by buying a bike. So I bought a 1999 Honda VTR250. Pics as follow:

I've never enjoyed a trip to get petrol as much as I did in this... then again that took 100KM and only cost $12

+1, love VTRs

I just cant justify having a bike and a car, the rego on the bike makes me cry. I didnt use it enough to offset the fuel savings.

Yeah - only have the learner licence and I'm finding the 250 plenty to handle at present. Still learning the basics.

I like the naked bikes especially the open face but I think I'll keep the VTR and buy either a Yamaha R1 or R6. I love the sound of the new R1 but I don't think I have the discipline to have 300KPH in my right fist...

Would be mint without the large tyre on the back ruining the cornering ability.

I wonder if I can put a supercharger on my VTR?

In all honesty, the step up from that to a 4 cylinder 600cc machine will be enough for a while.

1000s will do 300 but its not easy.

Its hard to hold your neck when your going over 260. Its not just twist the throttle and see 300.


So dont worry about having to do 300 just yet

Remember 1000s can go just as slow as 250s....

A mate of mine has a 6R and hit 287 on it.... so yeah.... 600's are probably fast enough....

Remember 1000s can go just as slow as 250s....

I know it can be as slow as a 250cc its just whether I have the discipline to keep it at those speeds. In fairness I'm still seriously wrapped with my little 250 V-Twin.

I think I'll be less tempted overall in the future with a 600.

I don't know, I'm sure I will but I think I'll keep the bike at all times. Loving the freedom from the petrol pump at the moment Still riding on my initial $12 fuel investment.

ah yeah i still have a use for the cage from time to time, but the simple boon to my sanity of being able to bypass terrible drivers / traffic / etc has made teh bike worth every penny / risk to my precious hide

Took her to work for the first time today. Was running on a schedule so I had to head straight to work. I was also working on a slightly more flexible schedule on the way home - so I took the long way home. I love corners now!
