thought id post this up, seems like ive nailed a really easy option for water spray

just 3 cheap pressure spray bottles from mitre 10 mega, gutted the nozzles out and use a few T connectors, some silicone hose, some hose clamps and a step down to a window washer motor. didnt think the window washer motor would be sufficient but sure enough it flows well.

drilled a new 17mm hole in the window washer bottle and poked it in, very handy source of water

Good stuff! I like DIY-ing car stuff :)

Its not so much the flow but the pressure required for the fine mist. Is it a pretty fine mist you're getting?

Nice one, mate, if you can position them further away from the core so the mist is atomising across as much of the core as possible, you will get a better result, and the droplets do look quite large so can you twist them to adjust the pattern at all?

Once the front bumper is back on, would you be able to attach them to that somehow so they sit as far away as possible.

I have done a similar thing with garden misting nozzles but mine look quite a bit smaller than yours so mist is finer.

Good work though, backyard mods FTW :)

Yeah the smaller the droplet size, the better it works.

I bought some misting nozzles on TM, work pretty good but needs a filter to work reliably, as the nozzle size is so small an ants cock could probably touch the sides.

When I get around to buying my GoPro later this year, Im going to mount it at the front of the car so I can see how the sprayer are behaving when the car is at speed.

Good idea on the filter, too :)

I like this idea. Might have a play one weekend and see what the stock junk I have does. The mist isn't as fine as I thought it should be.

Its possible that they have blocked up over time, due to the "stuff" in our tap water.

If your factory sprayer pipe can be removed easily, carefully take a pin to all of the holes, and possibly fill the pipe with something like CLR clear and agitate it, or use the worlds biggest pipe cleaner on it, to get rid of the lime scale inside. After that, it will hopefully work like new :)

Great budget mod for sure :D

one thing I would play around with is the direction you aim the jets/nozzles.
Rather than have them pointing directly at the core, I'd like to see what happens when they are run parrallel (or close to) with it. like mounted at the top, pointing down or mounted on each side pointing across the face of the core. I think this should distribute the water across more of the core as it mixes with the stream of air entering the front airdam. Kinda like pissing in the wind :lol:

Top effort tho dude. now mix some methenol in the water an plumb one of the jets into your intake mani 8)

i was thinking maybe the pump needs to breathe a bit of air to go with the water as thats as far as i can twist the nozzles

ideally i'd like a "water rail" fabricated, but the smallest drill bit size would be too big?

I'd have a play around with mounting the sprayers pointing forward, or forward and down (if mounted at the top of the IC), get a hi-power fan (those big ass workshop jobbies, should simulate something similar to driving speed) and see what the air flow does to the droplets, may get the effect you want.

I don't think it's a blockage problem. More just how the nozzles are designed. They flow a huge amount of water. Not really worried though, I was just curious about how they work. The hot side of the IC is cold to touch after a 15 minute session on the track with the system turned off so I can't see them doing anything worthy of mention to intake air temps.

LH one has an obstruction but the rest spray like the RH nozzle.

I remember rangi-ing up the sprays on my WRC st205 about 10 years ago. From memory used similar method, and the result was no better than your pic. I actually think that mine were worse.

But as someone has already said, I think it needed more pressure.

I never took it any further as I never felt intake temps were an issue.

The point of this excercise is this costs $10 or so, so its a very cheap mod.

Water/meth injection is on my radar though, as I cant see NZ as a whole having E85 at the bowser anytime soon.
