re-registering a vehicle.

Looking at buying a car thats dead in rego and has been pink stickered. Have been offered it for a good price and just contimplating whether or not Its worth putting through vtnz to see what it actually needs or selling it on as is for a parts car.

Havent been through the process before, anyone know what its worth for a check etc. Ill check it over for a wof and if it needs too much I wont bother but just curious re price and process.

Post 92 is hard, prior is just a hard WOF check. Been ages since I looked into it, but pretty sure it was sub $1k for a pre 92 car. If you see any crash damage walk away though.

people were doing it for sub 400, in auckland at least, last i knew.

shits got competitive in the last couple of years.

you'd want to be getting it cheap though, def talk to vtnz first - find out what you need to prove ownership etc as well.

I just went through this with my AE101 about a month ago. The vin check was $409 at VTNZ, this got me a WOF and the MR2A form.

You then need to buy the new plates and first rego which you can either get as 6 or 12 months, I went with 6 months and that cost me $290. But that cost varies depending on engine capacity, type of vehicle, petrol or diesel, etc.

Also, if you were not the registered owner when the rego lapsed/car was deregistered (this was the story with mine), you need to fill out a statutory declaration stating that you own the vehicle and have it signed off by the courts or a JP.

Hope that helps.
