Snapped Spring

Postby click99m » Wed May 08, 2013 3:18 pm

So as i was driving at night i managed to hit a pothole, long story short i have a spring the looks like this in my ae111 Levin Image
Now these Dobi 50mm drop lowering springs were installed in 2008 by the previous owner. Would it be worth trying to contact Dobi to see what they can do or is that too farfetched being they are 5 years old?
Or does anybody have any lowering springs for a AE111 Levin (non superstrut) that they willing to move on?

Woah, that's crazy. Must have been pretty fatigued to have snapped because of a pot hole. Lucky you weren't going 100kph when that happened 8O

Those are the front ones right? As luck would have it, I actually have a pair of front AE101/AE111 Dobi Superlow springs here that I'm looking to sell if you're keen.

Yeah 80kph was enough, quite lucky the spring fell the way it did, dropped the car around an inch on that conner (Front Right). Sounds great kiwi will have to keep in touch

Shit. Bloody New Zealand roads :x . No worries. I originally bought the Dobis only for the front as I wanted the nose to go a bit lower, so it's quite a coincidence that you need them as I was looking to chuck them on TradeMe this week. If you're interested feel free to flick me a PM 8)

Can't see the photo but I'm really surprised it snapped! Good thing it didn't go through the tyre.

5 years doesn't sound like long for a spring (not sure what mileage the car has done). I'd be inclined to call the manufacturer and see what they say; particularly if there's no corrosion.

As suggested above, contact the local council, and politely provide all the facts, photos of the pothole, and the subsequent damage it caused your car, and go from there.

They have a responsibility to maintain roads to an acceptable standard, and if they dont, they are liable unless they have adequate signage in place.
