how much do you think this ae85 its worth?

Postby bossman » Mon Mar 03, 2014 10:16 pm

hey, I'm looking at buying this ae85 on trademe but it looks overpriced and I am wanting others opinions.
I have had a look at it.
It does need a bit of work and it does have ae85 diff and brakes.
Engine would need a after market computer and tune but does have the loom all wired up for a link g4. The engines water lines have been converted to rwd very well and also aftermarket dizzy with coil on plug so that the firewall hasn't been touched. looked like it has coby extractors too.
Not worried about the exhaust welding, i can do that.
The paint is quite fresh and i found little sign of rust and only found a couple of fixed spots.
Interior was apart but appeared to be in alight condition and complete.
Got a car jam report and everything looks good.

Heres the link. If someone could get me a rough price that would be great.

Ask for photos of any rust repairs done before paint. If "no rust" is the answer, I'd be wary.

Certified for all modifications

15x8 0p sportsmaxx rims (can come on hoshino G5 rims also)

That always cracks me up, all legal but can change shit that makes it not legal.

Do you want an AE86 or something that looks like one? Realistically the value of an AE86 is around originality, mess with it and the different chassis number makes no difference. What value does it have to you?
Old Toyota (especially a jap import) means rust magnet. Be very very sure you are not buying a rusted out piece of shit because most are.

wheels and suspension, $4k.
AE86 diff with LSD,$2k+
ECU and tune, ??? but thousands.

as mentioned needs rust pics. there is no way it had no rust.

has it got a t50 or a k50 gearbox?

personally i would treat it as a rolling body with a $600 engine thrown in. if the panel and paint is good and its been well sorted for rust thats a definite plus, i would want to know where it was done and go and have a chat with them.

if you are looking for a project it could be a good start, but i agree with comments above on price - about half the asking price, provided panel and paint is up to scratch and its got a t50 (i bet it doesnt)

if you just want a sweet hachi, get that one D1 linked. you'd never get the one you are looking at to that standard for the price difference.
