Toyo Tyres

Postby Boosted_162 » Mon Apr 01, 2019 7:18 pm

Almost time for another pair of tyres on the Mazda2. I had put a pair of T1Rs on about 6 months ago (195/45/16) but they seem to have disappeared. So was thinking of going to 195/50/16, but once again stocks seem to have disappeared.

Anyone know if YHI brings in batches of certains sizes, or is the T1R being replaced? Would be nice to have a matching set if I could!

Wierdly www.toyo.co.nz redirects to nationwide tyres which seems to only sell shit.

Cheers.

Seems like Toyo NZ have gone and replaced with YHI Automotive.

Toyo used to be the only performance tyre brand offering SW20 OEM sized tyres but now it seems they no longer make them. You might have more luck with your Mazda2 though.

That shows that 195/45/16 doesn't exist anymore :( 195/50/16 is there, so maybe just out of stock on that size.

I did also email Toyo about 6 weeks ago but never got a response.

Yeah the 195/50R16 is there, not ideal as even moving up one profile step is enough to mess with things.

I found the T1R good but they only lasted 18,000km on the rear on my MR2. Fronts would do 36,000km and wear was even, not chewing out the inside or outside of the tyres.

What about RE003 in 205/45R16. They are a smaller diameter tyre than the 195/50R16 and I'd say a better tyre too.

What about something like this: http://www.goodyear.co.nz/tyres/goodyea ... -527342-p/ can get 205/45/16 which isn't far off what you have now.

I gave up trying to get T1R's, in the size I wanted it was many months till next order. Changed wheels in the end as T1R was the only tyre "available" in the size I wanted. I'm going for 195/50/15's in the above linked tyre now instead.

What sort of mileage in that six months? Grippy tyres won't last as long as other tyres, but that seems like quite a short life. Unless they are on the front and you have a heavy foot.

I had the T1Rs on the front for about 10000km before I rotated to the rear, and have seen little wear. Was hoping to get a matching set  but I guess not haha.

RE003 is definately an option, had them on my Glanza V and they were good. Would wait until the buy one get one half price.

F1s in that size are $206 + fitting so possibly a little over budget 8O need to remind myself i'll be unemployed soon

Can also get Falken ZE914 in both original size and 205/45, so possibly an option.

Yeah the F1's aren't cheap, and I wouldn't put them on a daily unless I planned to push it hard. Run some Hankooks on the mrs' daily blade, I haven't come unstuck yet. But I also don't push it hard on corners in the rain, like I do with tyres like F1's. My 15's are ~$180 fitted, spendy, but the car would be lucky to see 10,000km in 5 years i'd say. I hit up my tyre guy about RE003 and F1's and he leaned towards the F1's. I like the fact they are directional and not asymmetric, so if I get weird wearing I can swap them side to side.

10000km in 5 years! Shit, I currently do about 3 times that much a year  although hoping to change that.

Wearing doesn't seem to be an issue, even needing a wheel alignment the tyres are wearing fine.

I think i'll be happy with either F1 or RE003, I guess whatever is the cheapest at the time

Managed to find a pair of T1Rs in 205/45/16 :D

Got them from Tyroola, pretty sure they came from Australia so looks like NZ stock must be non existent!
