Postby BR0Z » Wed Nov 09, 2005 12:16 pm

Well Adrian from NZ Autocars has his for sale - cheap too!!, I tried to convince my wife (financial controller) that a 2nd RC would be an investment.

He has it listed on trade me with a buy now of $7,000 8O 8O , which I think is criminal. 189k kms & unmodded motor & everything else in great condition.

If interested e-mail him at adrian@autocar.co.nz or bid on his trade me aution.

Cheers, Mark

I saw that, an absolutely bargain
problem is that they don't seem to be that valuable to many people, other than those that already own them...

I'd really like one... but I be poor, and the AE111 satisfies my needs at the moment (haven't actually had it that long  ), if i had the money (to pay for car AND insurance), it'd be in my garage in a second :(

fuel consumption is fine.. no worse than any other 2L with a turbo.
insurance is an ass.. suffice to say its on the "hot list"
gearboxes in old celica and my gurrent gt4a have been fine :)

Its torque from the engine that breaks parts....
Hence 20v reliability. :P

have you ever owned a gt4? Fuel consumption isn't ridiculous if you drive it nice, insurance is only high if you're young, and there's nothing wrong with the gearboxes, they're well known for their strength, and the rc's are better still due to improved syncros (which was the main downfall on earlier boxes).

afaik its only the pre 92 (89,90,91) celicas that had weak syncros. im sure they had stronger syncros in the 92 and 93 and RC.

correct me if im wrong tho.

um, yes i have. i wouldnt b commenting if i hadnt experienced it. i had an st185 1990 gt4. it had dodgy synchros i meant, not the box itself.

insurance was at the extreme end of the scale

and i was putting in 10/day roughly, they are one of the more thirsty 2l turbos i have used. clutches = not much change from $850. etc etc. not the most user friendly engine bays haha

That all? I do that in my *N/A* SW20 in a day :P
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

details are a bit sketchy. every st185 I've seen, excluding the RC's and Rally's has the E150F box. That includes a few facelift models. That doesn't necessarily mean they didn't update the syncros in the facelift models, because for instance mr2's had the syncros updated to the same style as in the E151F and E152F boxes, but they didn't change the gearbox code (stayed e153), so it's possible, but I'd probably lean toward only the RC's getting the better syncros.

now, evl20v the dodgy syncros don't apply to the RC's (as mentioned above), the high insurance is due to it being a 2L turbo, not simply the fact it's a gt4 (insurance on a wrx, legacy or evo would be more), and fuel economy...well if you want a fuel efficient car, don't by a 4wd turbo

not quite. I consider them to be worth a bit, but they're generally very difficult to sell for what I, and most of the owners of them think they're worth. IMO a good RC should still be atleast $10K, but many have trouble selling them at that price and less....
