Oh, I think they will believe it, some might have even predicted it

That block is what you need, but you should replace the oil pump, water pump, cam belt tensioners & pulleys and treat it to some new rings, if you want it to last long enough.

If it was me I would only use the block, crank & maybe the rods, and replace everything else, preferably with forged lower compression pistons. Actually that's not quite true, I'd only use the block and fit a stroker kit

Thats from an MR2 though....
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

Yea but if they waranty their work they're going to be giving a waranty on workmanship and parts supplied and installed.

They didn't supply the block/crank and they didn't install it therefore they won't cover any damage made to it.

any engine can blow ..especially during tuning... for those that cry if a tuner blows up their engine you are in the wrong game.. you ask for massive power then specify how much safe power you want .. or build the engine for that task alone :) ...
engines are engines .. 3sgtes are prone to blowing up ..its a fact of life .. buy that built motor it will see you right.

What a crock  engines blow because of stupidity on the part of the owner/tuner or both as in this case. Or because you are pushing the envelope of known safety limits (which are well established for the 3SGTE, so this would either be deliberate or stupid). Genuine unanticipated failure is so rare as to be inconsequential, it is almost always preventable.

BS again, see above, 3SGTEs are not prone to blowing up if treated appropriately.

I'm afraid that if my tuner managed to destroy my race 4age I would be most upset, and very suspicious. Something is either very wrong with the build or the tuning process. My engine is a grenade, pretty much on the edge of what can be achieved with a NA 4age build, however if I dont get a season from the engine without catistrophic failure then something is definately wrong. I do specify that my engine is slightly fat in order to facillitate this. However if I bought a Hasselgren and it didnt run on the ragged edge for at least a half season I would be very pissed.

Bear in mind, some workshops actually have a disclaimer you sign before they touch it, saying "if something breaks when we're tuning it for power, you can't blame us" - within reason. Good luck getting any comeback unless you can PROVE beyond doubt it was their tuning which killed it, as opposed to the thing dieing on its own.

Also the fact that when it blew it wasn't actually being tuned rather driven by the mechanic which, and although this really sucks, would probably have a sign somewhere saying all owners cars are stored and driven at the owners risk.
Kind ok like a doctor saying hey, i'm a doctor but all your surgery is at your own risk, so if i stuff up and leave a scalple (spelling) in you and later on it cuts you up from the inside out it's not my fault and i can't be blaimed.
However the tuner may not have had something like that and if you can prove it was a tuning issue which coul be picked up by checking parts of whats left you chould be able to get something from them.

Best of luck to you and if i hear of any short blocks going i'l put it up here for you to see.

well as scuzzlebutt would say. 3s engines are a piece.
tuners/workshops are not always that flash.

I know Damian from A1 turbo's is a good tuner. And I'd trust Robin from Torque Performance too...
There are a lot of things that can go wrong at any time with cars..

But having someone tune my car is like letting some go for lap times around a circuit. Pushing something to the edge... I'd rather that be me.

and yes... i'm leaving a trail to the cliff.. with any 3s i can find.

Unless you are using standard components ofr the use they are intended, I.e to rebuild a standard motor then there is no warantee's & no insurance cover. Hence the reason why most motorsport/performance workshops have big notices everywhere stating that tuning etc is at the owner's risk. I know I've checked with the majority of insurance companies with regards to public liability insurance & what would happen in the result of an engine going bang or car crashing due to components I have installed/tuned/manufactured & unless it's a standard replacement component being used for it's intended standard performance then if something does go wrong, I'm not liable as it's be used outside it's intended use/beyond specifications etc. Same reason why most aftermarket components have a big forr race use only or off highway use only printed on the box etc.

End of the day you car isn't standard, you knowingly took the risk of modifying it beyond standard. It went bang which is probably either poor workmanship or just bad luck so unfortunately your out of pocket. If your lucky then either your mechanic or Raw motorworx might come to the party & offer to help fix it(which they don't have to do lgeally only to save their reputation). I hear this sob story at least once a week but the moral of the story is go somewhere reputable that is recommended & if you have a modified car don't let anyone else drive it but you.
