Well, being a 1990 you will get a smallport redtop, so thats a good start.
What kind of repairs are needed for the interior?

Early (prefacelift) AE92's can have a problem with rust in the panels underneath the front guards near the bottom of the A pillar.
Water running out from the ventilation grill at the bottom of the windscreen passes directly over a seam. I have seen this seam rusted out and water getting inside the car making the driver and passenger footwell wet.
If you pull the guard off you have to look through a couple of small holes to see where the rust is - it would be a bitch to fix because of the extra panel in front of the seams that rust. You would have to cut a hole to get to the rust!

The later AE92's have a little spout that guides the water over and above this seam and out a few cm from the vertical panel. This makes it much less likely to have a rust problem.

Also - it seems that white toyotas have more rust problems than the ones painted darker colours. My theory is that darker colour cars get a bit hotter in the sun and so dry out a bit more.
Hope this helps...

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

Id just like to say i own a 1990 gt apex and it is the best car in the world... i own an mr2 turbo but the levin is by far my favourite drive... not as powerfull but so much character, reliable, revvy and handles really well.... ive had her for 8 years and shes still going strong... bullet proof cars mate you wont be dissapointed....

Points to watch... the rear lights leak so look for rust in the tyre well (this is easily fixed with a little selleys no more gaps) , in my opinion the door handles come off far too easily... i.e. btoh sides have snapped off since i bought it but thats easy to swap. Only things i have had to replace is the brake master cylinder and a water pump which were preventative measures... mines sitting on 190000k's, ive owned her since 87000

yeah my old man is a mechanic and i dont think he's to keen on me buying something that needs fixing up, but, the center console will need to be replaced the power window regulators are prety crappy previous owner just broke a hole in firewall for amp wiring, paint is a lil shoddy in places, i like the idea of sort of rebuilding the interior of it, but yeh....

If you're talking about the one in Chch, in Hornby, then you're too late, I already bought it! Paid asking price too, it belonged to the guys' missus, and she was firm on the price. Looking it over, its' acutally pretty tidy, the faded paint on the roof and the console are an easy fix, the whole in the firewall is nothing, there isn't any rust to speak of, the only downer is the CVs need replacing, as they click a little, maybe balljoints too. Cam covers leak, but thats' a simple fix too. Totally worth the money, people pay more for these in worse condition!

? Its' totally worth the money. If I listened to my dad, I would still be driving my bog-standard KP60! My parents always harp on at me about buying something sensible, but I've made a fair bit of money by buying and selling cars like this.. I can guarantee you that I could paint the roof and sell this car tomorrow for $3000. I'd agree, buying cars on a whim is pretty risky, but hey, sometimes you gotta spend a little to make a lot.

This is the 45th car in my name!

Truenos aren't too bad. If you're still looking for an ae92, theres' a white Levin down Harakeke st, just off Kilmarnock st, with for sale and a ph number on the rear window, looks pretty tidy, got 17s, not sure wether its' an Apex or not though. Just saw it last night on the way home!

And just for interests' sake, here is the ae92.. I've just spent all day tidying up little things, giving it a wax. Its' such a tidy car for the kms!
