GT4 vs. Teg Type-R

Ok, I'm fed up with my Trueno 20V Blacktop, boring piece of poo. Nah, to be fair its a pretty good car but nothing interesting happens when you give it some gas.

I'm having a pretty hard time deciding between two cars. The formentioned Teg Type-R and Celica GT4 (ST205). Admittedly I haven't driven them yet :( but I'm looking for drivers experience.

If you have owned either, or both, or driven both, then let me know! I know the GT4 has more tuning potential but more can go wrong and it is an expensive car to work on. The Teg probably suits my driving style more so, but doesn't have turbo! Hehe. But no-one can complain about VTEC (well, I love it)!

Both are the same sort of price range, and both are pretty quick, yet I rarely see any comparisons.

the type r integras are an awesome car , id personally own one over an st205 , but good luck finding a tidy example of either that hasnt been molested.

if you want a part time track car get the honda , if you want a nippy comfy street car get an st205 :)

Ask on here and you'll get mixed answers. Ask on NZ Hondas and you'll get everyone saying the Integra

Personally, I hate the look of the new Intergras. In saying that... why a GT4? Prefer a GTT over a GT4

Don't really want a wagon, as I'm a man who likes sports cars :P I know this discussion will be biased on both forums but I'm hoping people who own these cars will give some fair reviews.

Although the Type R is awesome it wont be a huge jump over a Blacktop (unless yours was rooted) and NA is still more expensive to modify.
gt4 is pretty quick but with a decent boost controller should give you a few grins.

I would say ITR because of my preference for NA and it's a "hard" car out of the box ready for the track.

My only gripe with boost is that it trails off. VTEC goes hard right to the redline. From what I have read tho, the GT4 can easily be modded for 300hp+ with very little expense.

Yeah but boost has a broader powerband from around 2500rpm right through to over 6000rpm - Vtec doesn't even start to get interesting until over 6000rpm, and then you hit the limiter just after 8000rpm.

Vtec is like a really laggy turbo in terms of power.

If you want a sports car leave the heavy gt4 alone and buy the car that made better use of the 3sgte, the mr2.

I'd have a DC2 Type R over a ST205.

my suggestion is go drive several examples of BOTH.

I'd probably go for the Type R, just cause in factory trim its a great handling car and apparently they go well ;)
ST205's are a nice car, but the ones I've driven didnt inspire great confidence in their handling.

Thats crap. My mates type R is sooo much faster than all of the blacktops i've driven.

After driving both the type R and a GTT caldina (close to a gt4 i guess) the type R is the better car, so much more fun, but the GTT is a good crusier.

Just kidding.

I wouldnt kick an ST205 out of bed, that's for sure....

But there's sooo many sweet cars to choose from in that price bracket, I doubt I'd choose one over everything else.

I'd go the Type R. A great daily driver, that can also hold its' own on the track, and superbly reliable, whilst also being economical. Take one for a drive, you'll be amazed at how fast they are! And you really do get over the whole fwd thing pretty quickly!

Well you aren't really comparing apples with apples here are you. Out of these two cars it's going to be purely based on what you feel the most comfortable driving fast on your test drive.
GT4 reasonably heavy but 4 wheel drive turbo - big potential for mods as any factory turbo car. Handling can be brought up to speed pretty easily with the fitment of the right gear altho thats reasonably expensive to do properly. On the other hand the teg r handles pretty good factory due to les weight but is front wheel drive which may or maynot limit the fun factor depending on your driving style.
Personally i'd go for the gt4 over the teg r because i can't ever leave anything alone and i know the limit of things that can be done reasonably easily to na motors, bugger the suspensions already well sorted and not alot else i can do which mean you'l tire of it pretty quickly and it will cost you $$$ to get any more out of it.
PS Your black top shouldn't be that much slower than a teg r. Take your trueno over a bit of road and then use that as a basis for your test drives in both other cars, good comaprison that way

yeah but seriously though, they are totally different cars, no comparison, i'd personally get the integra because they handle so well, and are good on gas (compared to a gt4 anyway)

gt-t is a LOT different from a gt4!!
